| Freak369's Full Review: Neopets Plush Series 2 Silver Shoyru |
If you are a fan of the Shoyru species at Neopets then you will love this silver version. It was released in May of 2008 and retired shortly thereafter; since it was a limited edition plushie it was something that was scarce from the start. Of the three silver plushies in the series, this one is by far the cutest and when I got it I was more than happy with the look of it. The eyes are stitched instead of being plastic so it gives the Shoyru a lot nicer of a look. It also means that it is going to last a lot longer if kids play with it; that's not to say that it is indestructible but because there are no plastic pieces to it there's less to worry about.
When I saw the pictures of it at the website and online at Neopet message boards I was under the impression that these were really shiny and had a glossy surface to them. They do have a really sweet silver color to them but it isn't shiny. Like almost all the other plushies it is soft and squeezable but you will want to remove the two tags from it when you give it to a child. The wings on the back add a lot to the overall look of the Shoyru, without them it just wouldn't look as sweet as it does. You can move the wings and position them any way that you like and if you are posing it with other plushies the wings can help keep it from tipping over.
In addition to getting a retired five inch Neopet plushie you also get a Key Quest Token and a Virtual Prize Code. If you are a player at the Neopets website, you can redeem both of the codes for cyber items; the Key Quest Token will show up in your Key Quest Cabinet and allow you to play the online game. The Virtual Prize Code can get you anything from a rare food item to a piece of battle equipment. Each code is different and will reward you with different items so if you buy or receive identical plushies [even if the codes are different] you will get different items but the Key Quest token will be the same.
There are a total of fourteen plushies in this series. The regular ones include the "Yellow Xweetok", "Pink Cybunny", "Orange Kougra" and "Blue Elephante". Painted pets include the very cute "Spotted Kau", "Camouflage Poogle", "Speckled Uni" and "Cloud Meerca". The "Island Kacheek", "Island Bruce" and "Island JubJub" make for a great gift option for those that love the Island theme and its pretty amazing that you get three of them in this series. The rarest and most coveted of the second series are the "Silver Shoyru", "Silver Gelert" and "Silver Blue Aisha".
How much will one of these cost you? I paid ten dollars for this one and while that is a little more than what other five inch plushies cost you are getting a limited edition and retired plushie. I have seen these go for as much as $35.00 on eBay but the only problem with that is you never know exactly what condition the plushie is going to be in and if the codes for the Key Quest and Virtual Prize Code will be unused. I am more than happy with the price I paid, the look of the Shoyru and the items that I received when I entered the codes at the website.
Are these something that kids can actually play with? Yes and no. It all depends on the age of the child and how rough they are. Since the eyes are stitched and there are no plastic pieces to it, it is safe but there are wire pieces in the wings that can crack if they are handled roughly. These pieces won't come through the material so there's no worries there but the wings of the Shoyru won't have any shape to them and it won't look all that great.
I'd recommend this plushie for anyone that collects Neopet related items, is into the Shoyru species or wants to get the whole series to resell at a later time. Since all fourteen are retired and three of them are limited editions, the selling price on them will increase but you aren't going to make any kind of a profit until the whole series goes up in price. You might be able to make a quick profit selling the three Island or Silver plushies but the others won't be worth much if they are sold solo unless you find someone that really wants them.
As always, thanks for the visit
