| pr0230's Full Review: JBL S38II Main / Stereo Speaker |
I've been looking at these speakers for a year now and to my surprise last week, I saw them on sale for the unbelievable price of 255 for a PAIR.... So I bought them... How could you not!...
I can't add to the terriffic opinions already written about these speakers... They are wonderful, the speakers that is! .... Its like being in a premier movie theater. I Have all new JBL equipment that was added in just the past six months. As each component was upgraded (Center speaker, sub woofer, new fronts (S38II), and placing my old JBL's for rear surround sound duty, the sound of a movie morphed into the current wonderful sound that JBL's top of the line speakers can produce. I almost feel like I'm in a studio where I can hear each track that was recorded, clearly and distinctly...
Some times this is not so good as you can really hear how bad some of the singers are when listening to a concert....
Some things to note with these speakers.... These are big... Not really bookshelf speakers... But the size and accoustics that come out of the speakers are worth the size...
Contrary to other articles, these speakers can be easily mounted on a wall... Here is the trick... You need to purchase STURDY mounts for them... I used TV wall mounting brackets.... The bottom line brackets (370's ??) at home depot will do the job nicely... 50 bucks a bracket and worth the money. The flat plate that would normally be used to hold a TV, will nicely support the speakers... YOU MUST HAVE A STUD TO TAP INTO.... Sheet rock alone will not hold the speakers... THis is noted for the TV brackets also...
The speakers on the wall look a bit large, but then you get use to it very quickly...
Another thing to note: If you were using smaller sized book shelf speakers, you may have to crank the volume up a bit more to drive these speakers... This is not a fault of the speaker, as these speakers require more power.... You WILL get use to the new volume settings....
Good luck and Enjoy!
