Pros: Powerful bass, 5 matched speakers, dual drivers and tweeter on surround, wonderful for movies
Cons: Have to purchase extra speaker separately for 6.1 system, higher frequencies not as accurate
The Bottom Line: This system provides much better tonal quality and bass than other systems in it's class. At under $400, SCS150 is a steal.

| tabytha77's Full Review: JBL SCS150SI Speaker System |
This surround system offers the best bang for the buck in the sub-$500 surround speaker category.
I originally looked at the SCS135, but for only $100 more you can buy the SCS150 system. Both were on display at Best Buy. The difference in quality and speaker size are obvious. It is definitely worth the extra $100 to get the SCS150. My final cost was about $380 after shipping.
The satellite section and center channel can handle power from 10 to 100 watts. The impedance is 8 Ohms, with sensitivity of 88dB. The tweeters are one 1/2" titanium-laminate dome and dual 3" drivers, both video-shielded. Each weighs only about 2.5 lbs or so. They are easy to mount on the wall with the included brackets.
The subwoofer is a 10-inch woofer amplified by 150 watts RMS. It weighs about 35 pounds and is 17-3/4" x 15-3/4" x 16-3/4". It is easy enough to hide in the corner. This cube provides VERY DEEP bass. The listed frequency response is 30Hz to 20kHz.
Another reason I would recommend this system above the SCS135 is that the surround speakers and the center speaker are identical, which provides identical sound from each. After balancing the receiver test tone for each speaker, you really feel like the sound is all around you.
The difference this system makes in watching movies at home is astounding. The system is capable of operating at 100 Watts, which is too much for movies really, but allows volume to be set lower for lower distortion. Music is slightly distorted at higher volumes. I thought music was quite clear at lower volumes, even though my home has hardwood floors with their associated reflection problems.
I actually have to be careful not to play the sound too loud because you can hear the bass outside of the house! It is not such a problem with music, but many movies, especially action, tend to have a lot of lower frequencies.
I compared this system to other systems at various retailers. The only system I found to be comparable in sound quality were Polk RM series ($500-$1200). I was not impressed with overpriced Bose systems.
In conclusion, this is an EXCELLENT purchase for $350 or so. The bass is superb. The distortion is low across all frequencies. It sells for $499 at Best Buy, but can be had for much less with internet retailers. You will not be disappointed.
