We tried the JBL S-Center channel after reading about JBL quality around the web. We had started with a low cost set of speakers which did not provide a good, clear, understandable dialog. We moved on to a Klipsch center channel and found that it was not quite as clear at home as it was in the store. Our next move was to the JBL N-Center speaker. It was clearer than the others we had thus far tried. As we believe that the center channel speaker is the most important, we decided to try the S-Center, the step above the N-Center. Some feel that the subwoofer is most important for its earth-shaking special effects, but if you can't understand the dialog, why bother watching the movie.
Wow ... we were not disappointed. The S-Center, with its 1" Titanium dome tweeter, and its 4" midrange and dual 5 1/4" woofers, surpassed all the others we had tried. It provided a good clear center channel where it finally did not sound to us as though the actors were trying to eat the microphones. The speaker provided a warm, yet clear and understandable experience. We finally found the speaker that would fulfill our needs.
The S-Center provides 5-way binding posts, allowing the use of bare wire, bayonet/pin, spade, or banana plug connectors. This allows for ease of disconnecting the speaker for cleaning, dusting, etc. It comes with six small rubber pads for the bottom to prevent scratches on furniture or TV tops. We find the S-Center to be a good fit on top of our 32" TV. Using a small rubber doorstop under the rear of the speaker allowed us to point the speaker down to our listening / seating position, with the rubber feet preventing it from sliding.
