Pros: Once it's set up, it's a workhorse
Cons: setup directions translated to English, broken part out of the box
The Bottom Line: The instruction manual is tricky, but once set up, you won't regret it.

| mw12450's Full Review: JET Jj-6csx 6" Open Stand Jointer |
I bought my Jet from Woodcraft at the Woodworking Show in Dec '01. Right out of the box, I had a broken part that only allowed me to lower the infeed table, but not raise it. Jet's Customer Service solution?? Take it to a local repair shop where they would hold my jointer hostage for a month or so, and THEN I could finish putting it together. Totally not acceptable on a brand new machine with a warranty ticking away.
Fortunately, my local Woodcraft store (and manager) understood that he was going to get the whole thing back, so he just swapped the beds with another unit in stock. So, I finished putting everything together.
About that instruction manual....it could use some work! It was obviously written in another language and translated to English. The good news is that the pictures and some common sense can carry you through, but it wouldn't kill them to spend a few bucks on that booklet.
Aside from those little issues, everything else has been terrific. The knives didn't need any adjusting from the factory, and this baby never slows down no matter what kind of wood I push through it. It quickly trims down Oak, Mahogany, and Hickory and is always ready for more.
The motor runs quietly, and most of the dust ends up in the dust chute just like it's supposed to. The only change I'd recommend (besides the manual), is to make the fence about 2" taller.
