Pros: It's not very expensive.
Cons: Anemic music, hard to crank, goofy clown
The Bottom Line: The Bottom Line misses the old days, with scary clowns jumping up in the MIDDLE of the song from a box with nice, sharp corners.

| pippadaisy's Full Review: Jack-In-The-Box |
My mother is forever trying to find cute little toys for my youngest that his older sister and brother don't already have. When she gave him the Shelcore Jack-In-The-Box for Christmas, I debated returning it, but my older two had other plans, and opened it for him.
::: Yep, It's a Jack-in-the-Box :::
The Shelcore Jack-In-The-Box is a plastic cube approximately 4½ inches square with rounded corners. The sides are blue, with a red top and base, yellow crank, and yellow pop-up door on top. A soft plastic handle is on the left-hand side for your little one to slip his or her hand through while turning the crank on the right hand side. The front and sides have three different brightly colored clown stickers, and the pop-up door has a raised clown design with the Shelcore logo in the clown's neck ruffle.
Turning the crank emits the familiar "Pop Goes the Weasel" from a small speaker hole in the bottom of the box, and at the end of the song, the plastic "Jack" pops up. Jack has a soft purple vinyl accordion body, and a hard plastic clown head. Curiously, he has a head in dire need of Rogaine (bald top, red hair on sides), red ball for a nose, and a blue bow tie with yellow polka dots.
::: Dud-in-the-Box :::
I remember playing with similar toys when I was little that belonged to friends and cousins, and there is something about hearing the "goes the weasel" and having the little clown pop up that I remember wanting to do over and over and over again. Unfortunately, my kids don't do the same thing with the Shelcore Jack-In-The-Box. Because of its small size, it's really to small to rest on the floor to crank, but even with the handle, it's too large for little hands to hold in one and coordinate cranking with the other.
In addition, Bug is leaning toward being left-handed apparently, and has a hard time turning the little crank with his right hand. Then you have the fact that the Jack in this box looks more like a middle-aged accountant than a cute clown, and just isn't that much fun. Top it off with an anemic-sounding version of "Pop Goes the Weasel" and the Shelcore Jack-In-The-Box just isn't all that much fun.
I'd definitely recommend skipping over the Shelcore Jack-In-The-Box. It's a dud.
