Jenga is one of those games that look easier then what it is. The object of the game is to build and NOT destroy.
Jenga comes with 54 rectangular blocks. These blocks are either cream colored wood blocks or red, blue and yellow blocks.
To start the game the players must build a tower from the blocks, placing the blocks 3 wide and alternating levels. If the bottom three are right to left, the next three should go up and down. So the blocks from level to level are perpendicular to the level below. When finished you will have a three-piece wide, 18-story structure.
Each person in turns pulls a block from the lower levels of the tower, without making the tower come crashing down, and placing the blocks on the top. The more blocks that are removed, the more intense the game gets. One wrong move and the tower will come crashing down.
Jenga is recommended for ages 8 and up. The game requires strategic planning and nimble fingers. This is one game that requires coordination, hand eye coordination and luck. Games tend to be very serious and quiet. One must concentrate and decide which block to remove. It takes a steady hand to remove the pieces. It can also be played with as many players as you like or solo. I like to “practice” by myself so maybe one of these days I will be able to beat my son!
It’s also a game that can be played by all ages. The older crowd will enjoy this just as much as the younger ones.
Pick the wrong block and the tower comes crashing down. The person who makes the tower fall is considered the loser and must stack the tower for the next game.
We have two Jenga games at our house. My youngest in 20 months and of course is too young to play. We bought him his own game and he plays on the floor building and making his “structure” come crashing down also. He loves it, laughing the whole time and this keeps him occupied while we play.
They have also come out with some variations to Jenga. I saw on TV there is now a truth or dare Jenga where you must answer questions or take a dare. There is also a throw and go Jenga where the blocks are colored and you roll a die to find out which colored block you need to remove. Two variations to a great game.
Some may not like the noise of Jenga. Actually playing Jenga at our house is very quiet until the tower comes tumbling down. That can get noisy. Also you must keep an eye on where the pieces end up because when they come crashing down, they go everywhere. We had to get more then one block out of the dog’s mouth.
If you are looking for a suspenseful, fun game and can stand the noise, try Jenga. Find out how much fun it is to Build and Destroy. My family and I highly recommend Jenga but warning- it is addictive. You can not play just once!
