Jennie O is a brand that I grew up with.  My mom frequently purchased the Jennie O "turkey" roasts.  It made my decision to try the Jennie O ground meat a simple one. 

Jennie O Ground Lean Turkey

Jennie O lean ground turkey can be found at most larger grocery stores in several size packages.  The 1.25 pound pack is what we are reviewing here.  This is a small package and good for two people or more if you are using the meat for breakfast, which usually calls for a smaller serving of meat.  It is also available in a 3 lb. package or a 5 lb. package.

Jennie O lean ground turkey is packaged the same way regular ground meat, ground chuck and ground round is.  It comes in a package with a styrofoam bottom wrapped in plastic.  You can see the meat through the wrapper. 

The lean ground turkey is a bright pink in color and looks very fresh.  It is not as "messy" as ground beef with all the drippings. 

My Thoughts on Jennie O Lean Ground Turkey

I have started to buy this product more frequently lately as the pounds seem to be creeping on with the onset of the latter side of middle age.  Gotta hang on as long as we can...smirk.

Jennie O Lean Ground Turkey is much healthier than ground beef.  It contains 67% less fat.  That is substantial.  But how does it taste?  This product actually has a great taste if seasoned properly. 

I have used Jennie O Lean Ground Turkey cooked in hamburger patties, in spaghetti, sloppy joes and other meals where ground beef was called for.  It's virtually unnoticed and taken for beef by my husband on many occasions.  He prefers beef but doesn't realize I have made a subsitution many times.

Being the healthier choice of ground meats, I plan to continue using Jennie O Lean Ground Turkey.  It is sold at a comparable price and more than twice as healthy as red ground beef.  That makes this product a good buy and deal in my book.

I like the fact that this lean meat isn't dripping with blood like beef and is much healthier.  Anyone with high blood pressure or heart disease should consider making the switch.  Lean meat equals less calories and possible weight loss if you make the switch.
