| fr4ed's Full Review: Audiovox JW-160 Wireless Headphones |
I bought my Jensen JW160 Headphones for $49.99 at Target primarily to use with my television. One reason was because my wife and I live in a small apartment, and when only one of us wants to watch TV, it's hard for the other one to concentrate on anything else such as reading, computer work, talking on the telephone or sleeping. Also, I wanted the ability to move around the apartment and still hear the TV. So far I am very pleased. The headphones have served the purposes I bought them for quite well. They are also extremely comfortable and the sound quality is movie theater excellent.
Here are a few of the ways they have come in handy for me.
These headphones have successfully made it possible for me to watch TV while my wife is reading or working on the computer. This is truly a great benefit of this "investment".
I can now accomplish other things while enjoying a TV program. One thing I do is wear these (wireless) headphones while I am washing dishes. TV programs like the news, sporting events or even sitcoms are still quite entertaining even if you can only hear them, and you can always hustle back into the other room if something happens you want to see. It really helps pass the time of boring chores. And I find that it keeps me from being glued to my recliner during all of my TV watching time. I can actually accomplish other things while enjoying a TV program.
My wife complains that I watch too much TV, so I am even considering not allowing myself to sit down while watching TV. TV could then be a reward for cleaning the house for example. Anyway, I don't want to get too far off topic. That's just a thought.
I wouldn't otherwise be able hear the TV from the kitchen or bedroom without turning up the sound to a level that would disturb the neighbors, so the headphones make it nice. That's another benefit I have discovered. I now do not have to worry about bothering my neighbors with the sound from the TV late at night.
You can even hear the TV well while doing something outside up to 150 feet according to the package. I tested the range by walking outside, and the headphones worked perfectly for quite a long distance. I didn't measure it, but I would wager it was a lot farther than 150 feet before the sound gradually became too static filled to hear what was going on. This comes in handy if you want to check your mail or get something out of your car or even do an outside chore.
The headphones themselves are quite cushy. I have worn them for 3 hours at a time without getting uncomfortable.
The sound quality is excellent. I now hear details that I never knew were there. Example: When a commercial comes on that I have seen many times before, I often hear background sounds, dialogue and music that I never realized were there before. The overall sound quality reminds me of being in a movie theater. I often use the headphones at times I really don't need them just for the sound clarity. You can adjust the volume from the headphones themselves as well as with your remote control for your TV.
The package contained the headphones, instructions, transmitter, AC power cord and three different types of adapters for connecting to your particular TV's headphone plug-in. I can't imagine that there are any TVs that were made within the last 15 years that these headphones won't work with.
Setup was a no-brainer. There is no assembly required. You do not even need the instructions to set them up.
I would definitely recommend them.
