| jo.com's Full Review: Jergens Skin Cooling Moisturizer |
I am reviewing Jergens Cooling Moisturizer. I wish I had bought the smaller bottle but at the time I didnt know it existed.
About the product and its claims:
I bought this originally because I was out of lotion for my gym bag and this looked interesting. The size I have, 15.5 fluid ounces with a pump top, really doesnt work in my bag so I threw another moisturizer in and this is now on my dresser. I paid $6.49 for it so it is a better deal than the 10.5 ounce bottle, which is $4.49. However, for my gym bag, the smaller size and the type of cap on it (Not a pump.) would work better for me next time. And there will be a next time.
I was attracted to it because of the word cooling on the package as well as the fact it is made with cucumber extract. I thought that was a bit different from anything I have used. We are told that it revives our skin as it moisturizes and we are assured of a clean, crisp scent.
We are told that the formula in Jergens Cooling combines cooling cucumber extract with essential moisturizers to go beyond basic moisturization and deliver a cool breeze of refreshing softness. From the website: www.jergens.com.
We are also told that it absorbs quickly without being greasy and revives dry, tired skin. I think the next statement from the website is really cheesy The cool softness and clean, crisp scent will be as welcome as a cool breeze on a warm day. Moisturization has never felt so refreshing. Without greasiness to replenish and revive dry, tired skin."
Directions:
The official directions are to apply the lotion as often as desired to cool and moisturize. They are pretty simple although as you will read I don't have to apply this every 3 minutes as with my previous Suave product.
Warnings:
This lotion is for external use only. You should avoid eye contact. (I don't use it for my face.) Don't apply it to broken or irritated skin.
We are told that Jergens Skin Cooling Moisturizer was not designed to treat sunburn. "However, Jergens Skin Cooling Moisturizer is a great moisturizer, so if you currently use lotion to soothe a sunburn, Jergens Skin Cooling Moisturizer is a great option." (I took some liberties with my title.)
Ingredients: from drugstore.com
Water, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Isododecaine, SD Alcohol 40B, Palm Glyceride, Ceteareth-20, Cetyl Alcohol, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Glyceryl Dilaurate, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Propylene Glycol, Menthyl Lactate, Dimethicone, DMDM Hydantoin, Stearic Acid, Fragrance, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Sodium Hydroxide, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Carbomer, Blue 1, Yellow 5
Naturally I was curious about the cucumber extract in this product. I know cucumbers are used to soothe eyes and help the puffiness around the eyes, but what about the skin?
"As a cosmetic, Cucumber is excellent for rubbing over the skin to keep it soft and white. It is cooling, healing and soothing to an irritated skin, whether caused by sun, or the effects of a cutaneous eruption, and Cucumber juice is in great demand in various forms as a cooling and beautifying agent for the skin. Cucumber soap is used by many women, and a Cucumber wash applied to the skin after exposure to keen winds is extremely beneficial."

So there you have it
from one site anyway.
My thoughts about the product and claims:
Jergens Skin Cooling Moisturizer is a light green colored fairly thin liquid. It smells absolutely delicious. When I use it I do not smell like a cucumber! There is a fruity, minty, fresh smell to it that is wonderful. Even if you do not buy it, smell it the next time you are in the store.
I have had no problems with the pump. It pushes down easily, though as usual, if you are traveling with it put it in a bag or better yet get the smaller bottle which has a travel friendly cap.
The moisturizer rubs in very easily and although it is quickly absorbed in my skin, unlike my Suave AromaBenefits, my skin feels moisturized. In fact it feels wonderful.
I am not sure what tired skin is. I didnt know skin got tired but I think they mean dull looking. I cant say that this has transformed my skin into a 20 somethings skin, but it immediately moisturizes dry areas and feels wonderful for quite awhile. I dont feel the necessity to put it on every 3 minutes. I find my skin to continue to feel smooth and soft for quite awhile and it doesnt take a lot to do that.
I think terms such as "refreshing and cooling are better left to the beverage industry. I dont feel any cooling affect. When I think of cooling I think of Ben Gay or Vicks Vapo Rub neither of which I would use as a moisturizer so perhaps at some point the company may want to rethink some of the terms they use.
I love Jergens Skin Cooling Lotion and I don't use love with a product often. I was surprised because I am quite cynical about products. I dont like to think a product is going to produce miracles and I dont think Jergens has alluded to any miracles. Perhaps you may use it and feel a cooling affect that I dont.
Other information:
I wrote to the company because I wasnt sure about animal testing. I like to know not only that the final product isnt tested on animals but that the ingredients are not either. I immediately got a response:
"We are pleased to inform you that we do not use animals to test any aspect of our products. Additionally, current plans do not include the use of animals in the development of new products.
My final thoughts:
This product lives up to its most important claims. It moisturizes my skin and smells wonderful. I really love it. At this price, it is an amazing buy and will get 5 stars from me. I think this may be the first body moisturizer I have bought in the drugstore that has earned 5 stars. I will not only be buying this again but I have been converted into a Jergens' fan and cant wait to try another Jergens' product.
