I remember as a very small child having my mama touch my cheek to check for fever, or praise me or brush my hair out of my eyes…and there was this special scent that, to this day makes me feel young and special again. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized what it was.

For the past 30+ years, my mother has used the original Jergens Hand lotion. I can still picture her rubbing her hands together and spreading the cream to each of her fingers. If I was in the room, she would clasp my little hands in hers and give me the “extra” lotion. I loved to sit and smell that blissfully soft aroma after mama “shared” her lotion with me.
Those are special memories that I will always hold dear.
Now, I use Jergens too. I hope that someday my son will have those same touching memories of his mama when he catches a whiff of the special cherry/almond fragrance that IS Jergens original scent lotion.
We live in Maine. It is very cold here for long periods of time during the winter. Furnaces and wood stoves constantly pump out drying heat for months at a time. My hands and feet suffer the consequences of being warm. A small squeeze of Jergens in the palm of my hand cures the dry skin blues in a soft, smooth, non-greasy, most pleasant way. It is a pleasure to take a moment and apply a little lotion to my hands during the day.
One of the things I like best about this lotion (other than the smell) is the fact that I can get right on with what I was doing after using it. It goes on smooth, is fully absorbed by my skin, and doesn’t leave my hands feeling sticky, slick, or greasy. I don’t have to worry about leaving oily stains on the papers I handle at work, or dropping dishes or pots and pans as I cook. My skin feels soothed and comfortable and smells great!
Another plus for this lotion is the value. So many new “designer” lotions come out on the market each year. And yes, some of them are really good. However, I use a lot of lotion in the winter and I don’t like paying a lot of money for a small bottle of stuff. Jergens comes in a nice big bottle (and also in several smaller sizes for your purse, desk, car, etc) for mere pennies on the ounce. I have also found that some lotions smell a little strange over time. Jergens stays the same to the end of the bottle.
This lotion is not intended to be used for severely cracked, dry skin. It is also not meant for rashes or other skin irritations. It is NOT an all-purpose cream. It is; however, the best general-purpose lotion I have ever used. It is perfect for most skin types and does an excellent job for combating normal dryness attributed to handwashing, dry heat, sunburn, etc. Jergens does make other products for other, more severe extremes, but sadly, they don’t have that same wonderful smell that goes with the Original Scent lotion.
