| maggsmomm's Full Review: Jergens Skin Smoothing Lotion |
My mother always carried an emptied Lancome moisturizer bottle filled with Jergen's Lotion in her purse. It was her lotion of choice. My purse always has a tiny glass bottle reserved for my Jergens Skin Smoothing Lotion.
*~*Packaging*~*
A stand up bottle in white with purple & lilac accents, Jergens in white on a teal background with a pump top lid.
*~*Boasts*~*
Jergens Skin Smoothing lotion, which contains Beta & Alpha hydroxyl plus vitamin E, gently exfoliates unsightly dry flakes and leaves your extra dry skin looking & feeling touchably soft & healthy.
*~*Product*~*
The scent is the first thing you notice right off the pump. Its refreshingly clean yet a tad floral very similar to a perfume. After application you barely notice the fragrance but if anyone gets close, they can detect it.
The lotion is of medium consistency, and is white in color. Once you begin to rub it in the color quickly turns clear then is gone.
It absorbs quickly, even if your skin is already hydrated. But if you're like me, my hands and arms seem to stay dry constantly no matter what products I use or the time of year.
The lotion feels a tad oily upon application but once you have rubbed it in the feeling disappears and all you feel is soft skin.
It gets rid of ashy dry skin, and stays on most of the day. However if your hands are in water quite frequently (as mine are) you have to reapply the lotion because nothing can stop the drying effects of water.
I use tons of other products such as body butters & oils, in addition to exfoliating almost daily with a gentle shower scrub. Jergens does work wonders on my hands and arms, they are always soft, supple, and its reduced signs of aging.
Although my hands do look younger; My skin is nice and taught and there is no sign of aging or wrinkles. A bothersome side effect of aging.
The vitamin E is an important ingredient because it does ward off dry skin which helps prevent aging. And it smells a lot better than just rubbing yourself down with vitamin E oil........(which is gross don't do it). It also has healing qualities that make this lotion stand aside from other lotions.
It does smooth my skin. I mostly use this product for my hands and arms-keeping it in my purse when im on the go. I have not had any skin irritations while using this product, in fact if anything its helped with the itchies you get from overly dry skin.
How it smoothes skin is a different story all together. This IS not your typical exfoliate, it contains no micro beads that scratch the skins surface, instead it contains Alpha Hydroxy acids. Use of Alpha hydroxy in over the counter products is very minimal so there is rarely a chance of irritation. However these acids have proven to help smooth skin by gently exfoliating.
This also contains Beta Hydroxy acids. This is an organic acid that occurs in nature or in a laboratory. It really has little effect on your skin, except that it is less likely to cause breakouts. Salicylic acid is a common beta hydroxy acid keeps acne at bay. it really does very little else as far as making skin appear younger.
*~*How Do they Work?*~*
Alpha Hydroxy and Beta Hydroxy work together to remove skins out cells and prevent skin disturbance. However too much exfoliating is not good for your skin. So-how well do they work? Over time not that well. Studies show that removing the out most layer of the skin stimulates cell growth, causing the skin to thicken and erase fine lines and wrinkles. But over time your skins cells will not continue to divide making skin easily wrinkled, sensitive, and blotchy.
Most products like these do not carry a high concentration of either acids but you may want to reconsider how many products you use containing Alpha hydroxy acids. You might end aging your skin a lot faster than if you had just left well enough alone.

*~*Price& Availability*~*

*~*The Verdict?*~*
I really like this lotion for my hands and even body when I am not using other premium brand moisturizers.
Jergens is a trusted name in skin care and its lotions have proved over time to be useful and competent.
I also like the fact that I do not have to pay fifteen dollars for a bottle and I get expected results while I use this lotion.
Overall for its claims, the fact that it does work as intended and the price I highly recommend it for those who are penny watches.
