Jillian Michael's Ultimate Body does it again

a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Works all body parts, easy to use, compact
The Bottom Line: I really like this machine. I think it is a great addition for the woman in the house.
I was very curious to get Jillian Michaels Ultimate Body Shop home. I have given several “total trainers,” (I would put the Body Shop in this category.) five stars so how did this measure up to Bayou Fitness Trainer ?
I will admit that I really like Jillian Michaels. She is a super personal trainer who has changed the lives of so many people. On top of that, this ordinary human being has built herself an empire. The name did not sway me not to buy it. Rather it swayed me to buy it. Her 30-Day Shred is probably the best DVD on the market.
I will mention the DLX in the review when applicable. t The price of the Jillian Michaels Ultimate Body Shop is all over the place but I found it at Wal-Mart for $179.00 compared to the $350 you will pay for Bayou's DLX. That is a large price different but we are comparing an established company, Bayou, with a newbie in the world of fitness equipment. Almost caught you there – Jillian’s Body Shop is an ICON product! ProForm has also put her name on at least one product.
Like other total gyms I use my own body weight to move up and down and essentially work the resistance with my body.
The Body Shop gives me:
~an incline that changes the resistance. The higher I put the incline the more difficult are the exercises.
~a high pulley system.
~a pair of short strap hands.
~two pairs of resistance tube. These are medium and heavy in terms of how much “weight” they simulate. I have no problem with the medium and for some exercises the heavy ones are fine as well. Most people will be fine with medium tubes.
~one Jillian Michaels IFit SD Cards (I have a couple of hers and they are tough!) There is an LCD display, timer and a speaker to go with the IFit so all that is pretty cool. If you are not motivated she will scream at you to get moving! The display is on the foot pad so I have to be a little careful not to step on it. It is a nice display. IFIt is a tiny, postage stamp sized card that goes into a slot. That's it!
~an exercise chart
~an ankle strap
~a maximum weight limit of 250 pounds. This is a great machine for women and that is who I am targeting for this product. The Bayou goes up to 385 pounds!
~Jillian Michaels Ultimate Body Shop weighs about 87 pounds.
~a total-body workout with exercises that target your arms, shoulders, back, abs, hips, thighs and calves.
~a warranty on the Body Shop that is par for the course of many ICON products' warranties – 90 days. Bayou will give you a one-year warranty on both the fame and the parts.
Using the Body Shop:
Using Jillian Michaels' product is not a whole lot different than any other total trainer. I get a decent workout on the Body Shop. Unlike Bayou, which gives you cards (helpful for the beginner), I much prefer Jillian’s iFit.
The movements are the same on the two machines and of all total trainers. I push myself up and down landing on a platform that has treads so I won’t slip. This gives me a great leg workout and increases my heart rate.
I really like saving time when I exercise. For example I will do biceps curls while I squat (killing two birds with one stone). The Body Shop makes this really easy because of the handles. If I don’t want to move then I can do flyes for my chest and I can turn around and work my back. I can use the bench at all different heights to work my core.
I easily work my shoulder with front and side raises. I can do reverse flyes as well.
My experiences and thoughts:
So both machines have what I call a slide – a board that moves. The resistance works the same way to a point. I move the slide up or down with it at various levels.
If you are a man or have been working out, I would steer clear of the Ultimate body Shop. The Bayou DLX has a power bar which when attached can handle 50 pound plates on each side.
I hate to say it but Jillian Michaels Ultimate Body Shop is a woman’s machine – there I am - sexist. But this is a review and I have to tell it like it is.
My final thoughts:
The warranty on the Body Shop is horrible but I think you will get your money’s worth. There isn’t a whole lot that is going to break down. You might also want to take a look at The Body Works. The link is above. This is less money and truly is the same machine.
In general I find the total trainers boring but if this is part of other items you are working with then it is a good addition.
