| sweet_caroline's Full Review: Jim Henson's Muppets Dr. Strangepork Action Figure |
Well, this little pig has huge workmanship. Dr. Julius Stangepork, from The Muppet Show and the Muppet moviePigs in Space, is an awesome figure. He is smaller than Link Hogthrob, his crew mate, and probably most other Muppet members, but that didn't stop Palisades from doing and excellent job with this figure.
SCULPT AND PAINT:
As I've said, Palisades did an excellent job with Dr. Julius Strangepork. There has been great care and detail put into his features and clothing.
Strangepork is wearing a sparkling mauve spandex-like space suit just as I remember him wearing on The Muppet Show. There is the original logo on the front of his suit showing a pig's face on a lightning bolt with stars surrounding. He is also wearing silver gloves, boots and belt, as well as silver shoulder and neck decoration. His gloves are elbow length, while his knee high boots are complete with studded trim, creases from wear, and a split toe to snugly fit a pig's hoof. His matching silver belt is also studded trimmed in white. I believe that the detail to his space clothing payed off, because he really looks just like the original character that I remember from the the show.
His facial features and expression are also perfect. His little black eyes, longish snout, drooping cheeks and chin, and floppy-like ears help pull off an amazing likeness to the original character on The Muppet Show. He is also wearing a gold coloured pair of glasses that are permanently sitting on his face. He has a bushy ring of gray hair around the back of his head with bushy gray eyebrows to match, while little Strangepork is left bald on top. I find that all of these details come together to create a really wonderful figure.
ARTICULATION:
Dr. Stragepork has an incredible 12 points of articulation. There are more points of articulation on this figure than any others from Series 1, 2 and 3. He turns his head from side to side, rotates at the shoulders with balljoints, bends at the elbows, turns at the waist, bends at the top of each leg and at the knees, and turns his feet mid-calf. I think that this great number of movable joints makes this figure a really fun figure to own. His flexibility will also likely come in handy when Palisades releases the Pigs in Space Playset, which is coming soon. If you plan on buying the Pigs in Space Playset, you will have a lot of fun posing Dr. Strangepork with his crew mates First Mate Piggy, and Link Hogthrob who is already available from Series 4. I, myself, am looking forward to seeing the whole effect with the playset, which should be pretty cool.
ACCESSORIES:
Dr. Strangepork comes with a couple of cool accessories.
-A replica of the Dissolvitron from The Muppet Show, which he can hold in his hands quite well
-A model of M.A.M.M.A robot, which looks pretty cool and has a lot of great detail for an accessory. Actually I'm inclined to say that, because of it's fairly large size, it's pretty much another figure for your collection.
Both props look great and suit Dr. Strangepork well.
FINAL JUDGMENT:
I think Palisades did a wonderful job with this figure. He is very detailed and well sculpted with so many points of articulation. The likeness is superb and he appears to be coming right out of the The Muppet Show. Dr Strangepork would look great on his own, and even better with the upcoming release of the Pigs in Space Playset. Link Hogthrob, the suave crew mate, is also already available from the same Seres 4.
This figure is a great addition to any Muppet collection and is a lot of fun to own if you are simply a fan of those kooky Muppets.
Be aware that there are couple of items that are quite small, and could be dangerous to young children. Although, the figure appears to be quite durable, but could possibly be broken with rough play.
