| sweet_caroline's Full Review: Jim Henson's Muppets Link Hogthrob Action Figure |
What a great job Palisades did with Link Hogthrob. I'm finding that with each series release, Palisades is improving the elements of each figure. This figure looks great and has an awesome likeness to the original character on The Muppet Show and the Muppet movie Pigs in Space.
SCULPT AND PAINT:
The detail and workmanship of the Link Hogthrob figure is superb, as is usual for the Palisades Muppet line. Link is wearing a mauve spandex-like space suit with sparkles laid into the paint. The sparkles have a nice effect and help create the appearance of the glistening suit that Link wore on The Muppet Show. On the front of the suit is the original logo of a pig's face on a lightning bolt with stars surrounding, from the Muppets' costumes on the show. Link is also wearing a silver shoulder lapels, as well as silver gloves, boots, and belt. The boots are complete with heels, creases and studded trim. In likewise fashion, his belt is silver studded with white trim. In addition, my favorite clothing accessory on Link Hogthrob is his white shiny satin cape. It is attached around his neck, looped around his wrists, and buttoned to each elbow. I like the fact that the cape is attached at 5 points because it allows the cape to move with Link when you pose him, and not just hang limp. The cape also appears to be fully removable, if you wish to do so. His clothing absolutely suits him perfectly.
Link's head and facial expression are also dead on. They are completely in character and well detailed. He has styled blond hair and eyebrows, which are very well sculpted. His droopy eyes, upturned snout, pointy ears, and cleft chin are also exact to the original Muppet character. All of these details help create the perfect smug, conceited look that is so appropriate for Link's figure.
ARTICULATION:
This Muppet figure has a whopping 11 points of articulation! That's more than most figures, or maybe all of the other figures that I've seen in the line so far. He turns his head from side to side, rotates at the shoulders with balljoints, bends at the elbows, bends at the top of each leg and each knee, as well as turns his feet above the calves. These 11 points of articulation allow you to pose Link in a variety of ways with or without his accessories.
The figure, seeing as it is very posable, stands perfectly fine on its own and doesn't need the stand that comes with it.
ACCESSORIES:
Link Hogthrob comes with a few cool accessories:
-A Starhog Magazine with his face featured on the front cover
-A silver ray gun that he can hold in his hand
-A model of the "Pigs in Space" ship, the S.S. Swinetrek, which comes with it's own stand for displaying
All of the props suit the figure well and look cool when displayed.
FINAL JUDGMENT:
This figure has been done really well, with excellent workmanship and detail to all elements. His multiple points of articulation make this a fun figure to pose and display. His clothing and facial expression are perfect and I'm really pleased with the overall appearance of the figure.
This figure is a great addition to any Muppet collection, and is a lot of fun if you are simply a fan of the Muppets.
Be aware, however, that this figure has couple of small accessories that could be dangerous to small children, and could possibly break with rough play. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this figure for children under 5 years.
