| zorrothepiking's Full Review: Joe Rocket Blaster 4.0 Leather Gloves |
These gloves are definitely designed for a very specific window of use. Not an all weather glove! Relatively well suited to intended purpose, though.
Design and Fit:
Material -
The gloves have a leather palm, which provides excellent traction on the grips. The back is a combination of fabric, leather, and padding. This allows a good deal of air circulation, which is nice on hot days but is torture on cold ones.
Construction and Adjustment-
The glove comes with a short gauntlet, which is just long enough to fit over the cuff on my riding jacket. This gauntlet can be tightened using a velcro strap, and another velcro strap is available for tightening the glove around the wrist.
Performance:
Dexterity -
As with any motorcycle glove, the ability to easily operate the controls is a must. I have found this glove very capable in this regard. The thin fingers make it easy to adjust to work signals, levers, switches, and even the fuel valve. It is also easy to adjust the straps on the gloves while wearing them and even while riding. It is also nice to be able to open and close vents on the jacket without taking them off! The only trouble I've had is in attempting to secure my helmet strap while wearing them, so I usually leave the gloves to the end.
Comfort -
I've had a little trouble with the comfort of these gloves. The ends of the fingers had a strip of leather that extends back into the fingers where the pieces meet. This often touches the end of my finger(s) and is kind of irritating. It's not painful, but I don't like feeling it in there. Besides that, though, I have no complaints. The palm and general shape is very natural, especially while riding.
Temperature Considerations -
This glove has a relatively small temperature range. The near-mesh material on the back forces me to switch to thicker gloves under 60F, while the gauntlet cuts off enough air to my arms that I wish I had a pair without a gauntlet when the temp starts to reach the 90s. I like the glove when used in this limited temperature range, but I really wish that I could wear it more.
Conclusion:
Over all, I'm not particularly blown away by this glove. I don't think I'd buy them again. If I want another warm weather glove, I'll probably get something without a gauntlet and without a piece of material at the end of the finger. Also, very little padding is added to protect your palms, so if your bike vibrates or you squeeze hard, you may have some trouble with numbness.
