While patrolling the twisty little backroads of South Louisiana as a Police Lieutenant, I often come upon "downed bikers" as they misjudge one of decreasing radius turns. I really get a great product report from these accidents.
I was thinking about buying the Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket, but I was afraid the armor in the arms would twist and turn upon impact. I observed that the Phoenix jacket does indeed protect upon the initial impact, saving the rider from fractured or broken bones; however, the jacket does twist and the skin is abraided (road rash) as they slide down the pavement. Another rider with the Reactor jacket fell at the same point (really bad curve) and his jacket did not twist and there was no abrasion. Wow! I immediately went out and bought the Reactor jacket. The rider that was down also had a medium jacket on and the buttons buttoned, keeping the arms snug (I think this is the key) and therefore the sizing of the jacket is important. Before you order one, try one on and choose the snug fit: I wear a large usually but opted for the medium---there is little or no flapping and it's very comfortable.
Down here in South Louisiana it is very hot and humid...I have worn the jacket in 90+ degrees and it is comfortable.
I think Joe Rocket has a winner here. And, it's under $200!
