Just a thought... Before I share my thoughts on this, I would like to recommend that you also check out popsrocks review review on this same book for a detailed description of the format.
Why I picked up this book... For the same reason, I recently read the The Tightwad Gazette, I am always trying to find ways to be creative, save money and do something outside of the norm.
The book is a quick read... It took me less than an hour to read this book, and frankly, you won't need to read the entire book. It is formatted to be used as a reference only. So, for example, if you have Eczema, you would just flip through the book alphabetically until you reach the E's.
The author's goal was to find remedies for common health and household ailments just be using items that you most likely already have on hand. Although, I wonder why he repeatedly uses actual name brands and I am led to wonder if he is being paid to promote those brands. When the time comes for me to test these remedies, I will certainly be using the most generic, cheapest versions that I can find.
Some of my faovrite remedies
Acne: Use Elmer's Glue-All. Rather than using Biore strips to remove oil and blackheads, coat your face with a thin layer of Elmer's Glue-All (avoiding your eyes). Let the glue dry, then gently peel off, exfoliating a thin layer of skin. It is water-soluble, so you can wash with warm water if it sticks to your eyebrows. Baby Wipes: To make your own baby wipes, mix three teaspoons Johnson's Baby Shampoo, two teaspoons Johnson's Baby Oil, one tablespoon Smirnoff Vodka, and two cups Vodka. Tear off twenty individual sheets of Bounty paper towels. Cut each square in half, and fold each half into thirds (like a baby wipe). Place all the folded sheets in a pan. Drizzle the mixture over the paper towels, allowing the towels to absorb the liquid. Stack the towels in an airtight container. Bathing: For a luxurious milk bath, add a handful of Nestle Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk powder to warm running bathwater. The lactic acid in the milk softens the skin. Breastfeeding: Spice your meals with garlic. Eating garlic produces an odor in breast milk that prompts infants to suck longer, rather than just playing with the nipples. (The garlic in your diet will not harm the baby's digestion). Diaper Rash: You can prevent or cure diaper rash by buttering the baby's buns with Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening. The soybean and cottonseed oil in Crisco moisturize the dry, irritated skin. Facial One: Give yourself a rejuvenating, moisturizing facial by applying Miracle Whip as a face mask. Miracle whip cleanses the skin and tightens the pores. Leave on for twenty minutes, then wash off with warm water, followed by cold water. Facial Two: Mix two handfuls of unused Tiday Cats with enough water to make a thick, muddy paste. Smear the paste over your face to create a deep-cleansing mud mask, let it sit for twenty minutes, then rinse your face clean with water. The clay from the cat box filler detoxifies your skin by absorbing dirt and oil from the pores. Spiky Hair Gel: Pour a dollop of Elmer's Glue-All in the cupped palm of your hands, rub your hands together, and comb your fingers through your hair to apply the glue evenly to your hair. Comb your hair with a fine tooth comb to remove the excess glue. Style your hair to your liking and let dry. Will wash out with regular shampoo.
