| DaybreakL's Full Review: John Deere 4200 Compact Utility Tractor |
I've owned a Landscaping business for over 2 years, and I searched for the perfect compact tractor for about a year. I considered about 4 different brands; Kubota, New Holland, Shibaura, and John Deere. I was looking for a Diesel, 4x4, Hydrostatic Trans. Tractor with a front end loader. I compared all of the above brands of tractors, and found that the Shibaura wasn't really as high quality as the other 3.
So I really analyzed the 3 other brands of tractors. I knew that John Deere is the local favorite(I live in a tobacco farming community), and I have had very good personal experience with John Deere, but I wanted to look at all of these brands with an unbiased attitude. The New Holland's front end loader could lift the least weight and after trying a demo, I was really not impressed with the power of it when compared to the comparable John Deere & Kubota especially when pulling a box blade(leveler).
I have always loved Kubota's diesel engines they are about the longest lasting in the business, but it seamed to me that a lot of the parts, including the front axle, were light-weight considering the amount of work I was planning on using it for. But the Kubota, fully loaded, was about $3000.00 cheaper than the John Deere. So after visiting the local John Deere & Kubota dealers about 20 times each!
I made my final decision, I felt the Heavy-duty John Deere was worth the extra $3000.00. I've been using it for 6 months now doing front-end loader work, leveling/grading, and pulling up small-to-medium tree stumps, and it hasn't skipped a beat yet. The 26hp engine runs very strong, and this tractor does work that some other brands larger tractors can hardly do! The hydrostatic trans. makes the front end loader so much more easier to use rather than having a manual shifter to deal with. If you are looking for a compact tractor with a big tractor feel, and price doesn't matter, this is the one for you!
