Pros: resale value. better built than average mower
Cons: back-up button. high maintenance cost.
The Bottom Line: You get what you pay for and if you take care of it, John Deere GT235 will last a long time.

I've owned my GT 235 for just over two years now. It has been more dependable than other mowers i have owned. I mow about three acres and the mower does ride a little bumpy. Once, i allowed it to run out of gas and sometime later (next spring) i had to have the gas "forced" from the tank to the carb before it would start. Recently, we had to replace the mower belts. No big deal. Today, we paid $198.00 to replace three blades, oil/filter change, install new hydostatic drive belt, replace a pulley bolt on the mower deck plus labor. John Deere did deliver it back to our farm. I only used the cruise control a few times but i didn't like it because i would forget it was on and try to stop but it doesn't disengage automatically like a car does. The reverse safety knob is more dangerous than not having one in my opinion. In order to backup, i have to reach forward with my right hand which impedes my ability to look over my right shoulder. It mows very well and starts every time and that's all i really ask for in a mower. It's a little pricey but it's pretty dependable and we don't baby it. I had a discount-mart special once and it broke the first day i had it. I returned it the next day.
