Pros: Great running tractor. Deck attachment and removal well thought out. Good emergency features.
Cons: Ridiculous PLASTIC oil drain tube/cap. Oil filter removal nightmare.MORE plastic. Accessories big $$.
The Bottom Line: Highly overpriced tractor/accessories. Good workmanship, but not great. In my opinion, the Dealership issue and the response from John Deere to the BBB will prevent me from buying another one.

Well, I always wanted to own a John Deere tractor. Yeh, I know, it's a lot of money for a tractor, but I wanted a piece of Americana. I always had this view of becoming part of the Middle America John Deere Family. Here's my tale: I had the choice of a JD or a Cub Cadet, both Dealerships being two miles from my house. Each Dealership had promised me that they would pick up and return my tractor, FREE of charge, for any Warranty service, or if I wanted to purchase any new equipment such as a blade, snow thrower, or anything that required bolting on. Well, the Cub Cadet Dealership offered me a 20 horsepower monster for $1400 less than the GT235. But, I wanted a John Deere. The JD Dealership seemed a little informal, but I figured that was good. They didn't have many items on the shelf, and the owners were constantly making comments about how JD doesn't back up its Dealers and allows tractors to be sold at HD. I just didn't pay attention to their behavior - I WANTED a John Deere.
A year goes by, and the Dealership closes down. Now, I have to find a way to get my tractor to and from a Dealership 20+ miles away, for repair or if I wanted that snow thrower attachment with chains and weights for this winter. As luck would have it, you know what happened to gas prices. I figured, hey, I'm part of the John Deere Family, now. Old JD can't be that happy that a Dealership had made all of these promises and left customers to travel 20 miles each way, and find transportation for their tractor and accessories, for ordinary parts, oil, Warranty repairs, and purchase of accessories. Let's face it, most of the locals I know bought a JD because of the Dealership promises and how close they were to the Dealership.
So, we figured that JD wouldn't be happy about the Dealership closing, even though they were the first to know. I was to be the test. I wrote a letter to JD - no answer. I sent an email to JD - no answer. I figured maybe the BBB would get a response. And, they did. Instead of getting a response from John Deere Customer Service or something, I received a reply from their legal department, stating: "....there is no violation of any warranty, law, or other legal foundation..."; "Our internal client with (same) defend its policies in any further forum".
I was hoping for something like, "Howdy Neighbor. Thanks for joining the John Deere Family", and then maybe a few kind words.
WORDS TO THE WISE; GET YOUR DEALERSHIP PROMISES IN WRITING. ACCORDING TO THE LETTER FROM THE BBB FROM JD, THE HOME OFFICE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ACTIONS OF THE DEALERSHIP, AND AS I LEARNED, DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME. I CAN ALMOST ACCEPT THAT, BUT NOT TO RECEIVE A LETTER FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH SOME KIND WORDS AFTER I SPENT $5406, IS, IN MY OPINION, NOT ACCEPTABLE. Now, my overall rating does take into account my experience with JD and the Dealership, because, in my opinion, when you buy a JD, you are linked to the Dealership and to JD.
