Pros: There are many refinements of basic lawn tractor technology.
Cons: It is expensive, and it doesn't cut in reverse.
The Bottom Line: This machine will cut your mowing time, and your down time for repairs drastically. There is no better value for your money.

I bought it for the cup holder. I've had three "riding lawn mowers" over the years. None of them had a cup holder. None of them had headlights either for that matter.
I've been taking care of three and a half acres of wooded, and sometimes weeded, earth for much of my life now. I have finally found a way to cut mowing time. The LX277 is the answer to a prayer.
The Cup holder
I didn't buy it just for the cup holder, but it was a nice touch, and a sign that John Deere had put some thought into this machine. Some of the features that aren't as obvious as the cup holder but are just as important helped make my decision too.
I liked the wider cutting deck, but I have a lot of trees in my yard. No problem, John Deere tightened the turning radius. Changing direction from forward to reverse is as simple as changing the peddle you are pushing. No more gears and clutching.
I liked the wide mouthed gas cap (near the drink holder). No more sloshing gas all over the engine. There is a cruise control for rare times when I am mowing an area that is free of obstacles.
I like the seat, it is adjustable, and comfortable. I can sit back and enjoy my beverage while cruise control does all the work. The wider deck makes the job go by faster now, and there really isn't time to enjoy an entire beverage. The drink holder does come into play though when I am using the tighter turning radius to move around those trees.
$4,000.00 ?
Yep, that is kind of expensive, but it is worth it. The John Deere quality is there, and there are plenty of extras, like the ease with which the deck can be removed. My old mower's deck wasn't even worth the effort. I wish that I could mow in reverse, but I suppose Ralph Nader got to them. My old mower worked just as good in reverse as in forward. I wish that the engine would keep running if you left the seat, but I suppose that if you are going to have cruise control, you need some sort of "dead man's switch".
The John Deere LX 277 has made some big improvements in "Riding Lawn Mower" technology, while keeping much of the quality that has made it a leader in the industry. I am
recommending this mower to anyone with a big yard. It has the horsepower, and the reliability to keep your grass under control, and it's ease of use, and other features will make it a good investment for you.
