| matt617's Full Review: John Deere Lawn Tractor |
At first glance John Deere products seemed insanely priced. Compared with your average $1500 mower that is. Heres my advice. Test drive a cheap tractor and then test drive a Deere, its that simple. You can feel the difference. The LX 277 has many great features. A quick run down includes a hydrostatic drive system(no clutching, automatic), 17hp Kawasaki engine(V-twin, full-pressure lubrication), hour meter, cast iron front axle, high back seat(adjustable), heavy duty transmission, and yes believe it or not cruise control and a cup holder.
How it stacks up in the field.
Well this is the second season that I've been using the Deere and its been absolutly problem free. I mow about a acre of lawn very hilly as well.I must talk about the engine which is marvolous. This engine has a nice low toned rumble at idle(much like a motorcycle). Yet at full throttle its not that loud and its balanced so well the vibrations are minimal. I have yet to bog this engine out, it generates alot of torque, tall grass, wet grass, hills, nothing slows it down. I have the 42C deck and it does a pretty good job overall. Its not perfect(pretty close) but no tractor will give you that especially turning. Manuvering is actully relatively easy. If you have alot of small trees be prepared to do alot of jockying. Most of the time you can mow right around thanks to its tight turning radius. One thing I found to be a problem is traction. Just keep it in mind while you mow. I have the 10 cubic foot cart as well and i've loaded it up full of dirt and haul it up hills and it pulls it no problem. May want chains if your going to tow alot. If anyone out there knows how heavy a load of dirt in a wheel barrow is, you know what I mean!
