Pros: Tames frizz, defines curls.
Cons: It can't combat humidity.
The Bottom Line: This is a great, light-weight mousse. It may not work by itself though.

| Leeens's Full Review: John Frieda Frizz Ease Take Charge Style Managing ... |
There were a few things that have transformed my hair from an unruly mess to beautiful curls. One was learning that you do not brush curly hair. Two was that getting layers avoids triangle head a la Dilbert's redheaded co-worker. Three was John Frieda Frizz Ease Corrective Styling Mousse.
At first I was reluctant to try this product because I was disappointed of the results of the Frizz Ease Serum-- the brand's pilot product. The product left my hair greasy, not smooth. Instead, I experimented with mousses from other brands such as L'Oreal and Dove. I found that their products either weighed down my hair or did not have a strong enough hold to keep my curls intact.
Then I decided to give John Frieda Frizz Ease Corrective Styling Mousse a shot. It was on sale, so I figured I had less to lose. (Note: Many major convenience stores such as CVS will refund your money for products you are unsatisfied with.)
I'm glad I did. While it isn't perfect, this product is the perfect balance of hold without weight that gives my curls the definition and bounce they need to look great.
After showering, I towel dry my hair. After letting it air dry a few minutes while I change and get ready, I shake the can a few times, turn it upside down, and spray a golf ball-sized dollop into my palm. I rub the product between my fingers and then evenly throughout my hair.
Then I turn my head upside down and run my fingers all throughout my hair.
I either blow dry or air dry. Air drying is best, since the heat from a hair dryer can be damaging to curly hair, which is naturally dryer. I don't always have the luxury of time to wait for it to dry.
Ingredients listed on the bottle: water, propane, butane, polyquaternium-11, dimethicone copolyol, panthenol, peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil, isosteareth-10, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, benzophenone-4, fragrance
Kinda scary.
But like I said, this product isn't perfect. On rainy and humid days, this product needs backup such as gel or the Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Cream. The ringlets it forms will start to erupt into frizz without the help of other products.
In the dry climate of Boulder, CO, it was the only product I needed, but in the humid summer of Washington, D.C., I also needed a strong gel to keep curl definition. Just the cheapo-o Dep brand does the trick for me.
The mousse does a decent job of livening up a day-old style Ive slept on. But the Secret Weapon product Ive recently started using works even better. The mousse tends to weigh down dry hair or make it stick together. Save it for use on a fresh style.
The product has a pleasant, traditional shampoo-like smell that is pretty pungent when first applied but dissipates after about 30 minutes.
John Frieda Frizz Ease Corrective Styling Mousse is a must have for my trademark curls. I'm never without it. Seriously. Along with Downy Wrinkle Releaser is one of the first products I buy when I move to a new location. In fact, I am so helpless without my mousse (as in, afraid to go outside with a frizzy afro head sans its help), that I usually buy a can before I leave and take it with me in my carry-on (so that it stays in the pressurized cabin).
I've paid $5.99 just about everywhere I've bought it. It is occasionally on sale at drugstores such as CVS.
*This mousse is Step 4 in John Frieda's Frizz-Ease system of products. Step 1, cleanse, is the brand shampoo. Step 2, condition, is the brand conditioner. Step 3 is the Hair Serum I don't like.
The first 3 are not necessary for the desired results. I prefer Pantene Pro-V's shampoo and conditioner designed for curly hair, Hydrating Curls. As I mentioned earlier, Step 5, Finish & Shine with the Secret Weapon is useful, if needed.
