Pros: Great value. Perfect for fine hair. Smooths and adds shine.
Cons: Not suitable for thick hair. Stingy applicator. Does not work with with other sytling products.
The Bottom Line: Consider John Frieda's "Secret Weapon" Finishing Creme or Charles Worthingtons "RESULTS" Frizz Taming Serum for thick/wavy hair to achieve similar effects. Frizz Ease serum is for fine/straight hair.
raistephens's Full Review: John Frieda Frizz Ease Hair Serum
Until about three months ago I had very long, baby fine hair that was difficult to maintain. Fly-aways galore I looked like a frightened kitty cat! The John Frieda products seemed to get the job done for me, particularly the "Frizz Ease" hair serum. Just a small amount applied to the surface of damp hair smoothed it nicely without leaving a heavy residue or oily look. Definitely take care to use a SMALL amount, as excess product is sure to leave hair limp, lifeless, and destined to ponytail duty. I did have to reapply it a few hours later to maintain a sleek look, but even less each time for maintenance. The serum comes in a small, convenient purse-sized plastic pump bottle for easy access.
Now I have shorter hair and I still occasionally use the Frizz Ease hair serum. I wouldn't recommend it for styles that require other holding products as it only fuels a mess combined with mouse, gel, or hairspray. I actually found that it causes gel and hairsprays to lose their hold completely. Used alone it's perfect for a flat, smooth look; don't expect body, or bounce, but it adds a nice shine and accentuates highlights.
On the other hand, my boyfriend (the loving and willing guinea pig for all my beauty suggestions) decided to try it. His hair is very thick, and slightly wavy. Ideally, he only wanted to smooth fly-aways. The Frizz Ease serum literally vanished in his hair. After exhausting almost a quarter-size amount of product into his hair, we finally gave up determining that it's much to light of a product for thicker hair. However, there is a John Frieda product that stands up even to his menacing (but gorgeous) hair. The "Secret Weapon" flawless finishing crème works great for him. It smoothes and separates his curls without looking like it's been fussed with and reduces frizz dramatically. It still requires occasional maintenance, but just a tiny amount every few hours on humid or damp occasions. The fragrance is reminiscent to a curling iron (?), but not unpleasant. If you're absolutely set on using a serum over a creme, Charles Worthington has a new product for thicker hair called "RESULTS" frizz taming serum in a bright pink box that works pretty well. Both the John Frieda and Charles Worthington products can be found at Walgreens for a reasonable price - about $3.50 to $5.95 per item.
