xyzwyatt's Full Review: John Frieda Frizz Ease Hair Serum
I have been using this product off and on over the years and have come to rely on this step for defrizzing.
This is step 3 of 5 in John Friedas Frizz-ease system. This product works well with other products in this line but can be used successfully alone or with other brands.
The formula comes in three varieties: lite for thin hair, original or extra-strength for coarse hair. I use the original formula.
For those unfamiliar with the term, frizz is when each strand of hair decides to go its own way rather than lying smoothly with the others which occurs most often on a humid day.
The Claim
The package advertises that it is the number one selling serum for frizzy hair. The bottle claims:
Transforms dry frizz-prone hair. Smoothes texture and adds shine for amazingly glossy, frizz-free results.
The product also claims to pro-long the life of color-treated hair.
Directions
From my experience, the serum only works if used exactly as directed. The directions indicate not to towel dry your hair. Instead, just squeeze it out. It does take longer for hair to dry that way but it most definitely improves the performance of the product. While the hair is sopping wet a dime-size amount of the product should be worked into the hair.
More is too much when using this product. If you find your hair greasy once it dries either it wasnt distributed enough or too much has been added. I have found that there is no going back once too much has been added. Greasy oily hair is a miserable thing so if I accidentally overindulgence I rewash my hair.
Another lessen learned is never to add the serum to dry hair. If the hair has already started drying just wait until the next day otherwise the same oily dilemma will occur.
About the bottle
I use to use this years ago and hated it back then. The bottle has changed since then which makes application easier. The bottle has a glass dropper so theres no chance of getting too much at once.
The bottle is short and has a twist lid. I often have this out on the counter because it gets lost in my hair products basket because its the shortest item I have. I dont always take the time to screw the lid on completely which could cause problems if it got knocked over.
My experience
I feel that the product accurately does what it claims. My hair feels smooth and is easier to work with and has a healthier shine to it. My hair never feels greasy or heavy after using this unless I put too much on.
I really dont like the design of the bottle but it works better than earlier bottle designs because the amount of product that goes on the hair at once really makes an impact on the performance.
I dont notice any smell at all from this and it washes out easily. My hair definitely takes longer to dry obviously since it starts sopping wet. The neckline of my shirt usually gets wet which is annoying.
The 1.69 ounce bottle cost me $8 and lasts at least 2 months. This is the most expensive step in the system and when using a couple other of these products there doesn't seem to be a difference if I use it or not.
This is a styling aid so does nothing to reduce frizzy hair in the long run. I have noticed a decrease in frizz however when its humid out the hair still becomes frizzy.
Although it is a good product and helps, it can't be used alone to solve the frizz problem.
