When my other half and I found Johnny's were looking for a good shake.....
We got one and a good Ice cream shake as well. We were greeted at the door by the most jovial person I have ever met waiting tables. He took our hands and welcomed us into his place. His name was George Washington GW for short. I'll never forget that. I said to GW, we were looking for a good chocolate and strawberry shake...he said have a seat right there and I'll be back in a bit. That was true, speedy service was his motto. In about two shakes of a lambs tail he brought us water and napkins and said the shakes would be up in 30 seconds. He no longer said that and turned around and one of his cohorts was standing behind him with the shakes. About that time YMCA came over the speakers and he and almost all the wait staff came out and danced and sang right along with it. It was a happening place with lots of excitement.
Our next visit was with our children. WOW and big eyes were all we could get from them. And DAD CAN I HAVE A NICKLE in unison was repeated many times to which our server would plunk down a couple. The old-fashioned tabletop jukeboxes helped to entertain my children.
My children enjoyed the great hot dogs and my partner and I had many sandwiches to choose from grilled cheese, egg salad, tuna salad and all the old standards. And of course what good reminiscent 50's style restraint would be with out old-fashioned hand made hamburgers right down to the patties. You could choose from many kinds of burgers even including a vegetarian all for around $4.00. Fries and onion rings for about $2.00 with additions like chili and cheese. They even had some new fangled food like chicken fingers for around $2.50, which was a savior for me as my youngest lives and dies by the fingers. Shakes served in the tin with an old-fashioned soda glass full for around $2.50. They also had the soda fountain all cranked up with vanilla and cherry cokes and sprites about $1.50 A family of four could walk out shakes and food for around $20 to $25 dollars
