| walkerpkw's Full Review: Johnson & Johnson Reach Clean Burst Cinnamon Floss... |
Flossing is the most effective prevention measure you can do for healthier teeth and gums. On my last 2 quarterly visits to the dentist I was given a clean bill of health. Over the last few years my dental hygienist has noticed a steady improvement with only one problem area called a "pocket". I attribute the improvement to my daily flossing verses a less frequent 2 or 3 times a week.
My daily habit:
My regiment consists of 1) flossing 2) rinsing with an antiseptic mouth wash, 3) regular brushing. I'm disappointed with my last purchase of Johnson & Johnson's "Reach" brand called "Clean-Burst" cinnamon. I have one tight spot where the "Reach" brand gets stuck then breaks off. Suddenly there's a slight discomfort with a "wedge" like feel of something stuck between your teeth. I have to pull out another strand or two just to get the shredded broken pieces removed.
About Reach® Clean-Burst:
I bought this brand because of an advertisement I read and wanted the latest product in "flossing technology". Turns out I feel for another gimmick. It seems to do a fine job right up the first tight spot then "snap". I find this particular version of Reach® extremely flavorful compared to any of the other similar brands. The Reach brand also tends to have a better cleaning effect compared to Glide®. The difference being, Glide® feels like it's sliding over your teeth where Reach® has a little more resistance or "scrubbing" feel to it.
I've never had this breaking problem with "waxed" floss before and neither have the samples of other brands my hygienist gives me. I'm now back to using Glide and some other generic drugstore brand without any problems. Part of the "tight feel" with Reach® Clean-Burst is its' rather on the thick side and so weak it can easily break when tugged on. I wouldn't recommend this brand to anyone with any tight spots, even one.
Claims:
Removes up to 52% more plaque then Glide® ...... I guess I'll never know.
Final recommendation: No
Not if you want floss that shreds and breaks easilly. Reach® does have several "shred resistant" versions.
I didn't particularly care for the dye used in the floss which turned parts of my lips red. It didn't come off easily either. Almost as tough as trying to remove permanent marker ink.
Only consider....
If you have no tight spots and like the cinnamon flavor when flossing.
The little details:
Traditional flip top pocket sized container and it's easy to use. Available in single packs for around $2.00
Flossing Tips:
Floss at least once a day and only the ones you want to keep!
Something my hygienist mentioned until only recent...
"Don't forget the very backside of molar gum-line areas". It's a tough spot to reach and most neglected.
Flossing doesn't cost it pays!
