Ice_Princess's Full Review: Jones Soda Carbonated Green Apple Candy
Ok. I'm going to admit it. I am addicted to Jones Soda. I buy a case every time I go to the grocery store and I wouldn't dream of ordering any other drink at Panera. And my absolute favorite flavor is green apple. So, when I was waiting in the checkout line at my local Target one day and my wandering eyes found the Jones Soda Co. Carbonated Green Apple Candy I immediately added two tins to my cart. I don't think I even checked the price or really read what kind of candy it was. The words Jones Soda and green apple were enough for me. Luckily, the candy turned out to be just as good as the soda.
Price
I always buy my Jones Soda Co. Carbonated Green Apple Candy at Target. I have purchased it at several different locations in my area and the price is always $1.59 for a tin with 50 pieces of candy. I've never looked for this product at other stores, but the candy's website (www.jonescandy.com) says it can also be purchased at stores including Kroger, 7-Eleven, Circle K, and Spencer's. You can also purchase it online from the Jones Soda Store (www.jonessodastore.com) for $2.95 a tin.
Packaging
Jones Soda Co. Carbonated Green Apple Candy comes packaged in a tin that is about 8"X3". The tin is a bright green, about the same shade as the Green Apple Jones Soda. The front has the Jones Soda Co. logo and the name and flavor of the candy on it. The side labels show the ingredients, nutrition facts, and company information. The back of the tin has the bar code and website address, along with a sort of product description that I am going to share because it makes me smile:
"Got a jones for a Jones? Check out new Jones Soda Candy. These little babies deliver a blast of your favorite Jones Soda flavors, along with an oddly enjoyable tongue-tingling sensation. Drop 'em in your Jones Soda beverages as flavor boosters too."
The tin has a flip top on one end. It holds up well to repeated flipping and holds shut tight. I've gone through probably a couple dozen tins of this candy and I've never had the top open by accident.
Also, if you've ever seen a bottle of Jones Soda you know that all the bottles have different photos on them. They have continued that sort of uniqueness in the candy by putting quotes on the inside of the candy tin's lid. My current tin's quote is "success comes in cans."
The Product
Jones Soda Co. Carbonated Green Apple Candy looks alot like a pill. It is a small round shape, that is about 3/4 cm in diameter. It is light green with dark green flecks throughout. There is a "J" stamped in the middle of one side.
My Experience
Truthfully, I am now addicted to Jones Soda Co. Carbonated Green Apple Candy just as much as I'm addicted to the actual soda. It has a great taste and the carbonation makes them fun to eat.
The package calls the candy "tongue tingling flavor boosters and I would have to agree. They have a lot of flavor for such small candies and the taste is very close to the soda. It has a very true green apple flavor and doesn't have an aftertaste at all. The "tongue tingling" feels sort of like the candy is fizzing on your tongue. It's a little bit like Pop Rocks without that insanely loud noise and occasionally painful pop. I've also found that holding the candy in one spot keeps you from feeling the fizzing/tingling if you're looking for the flavor without the extra excitement.
The package also says you can add the candy to soda to give it extra flavor, but I've never done this because I think Jones Soda is plenty flavorful on its own. I think I'll leave that aspect for someone else to discover and report on.
I would also recommend not eating more than the serving size of 4 pieces at one time, or even in a close time period. Its been my experience that after 4, maybe 5 pieces, your tongue starts to feel a little tender from all that tingling. Of course, that may be just be because I always hold my candy in the same spot on my tongue, so you may want to just experiment and figure out your own limit.
Final Thoughts
I would definitely recommend Jones Soda Co. Carbonated Green Apple Candy. It tastes great and is fun to eat. Even the tin is great. What's not to love?
