The Joseph's Lite Cookie Company makes several varieties of sugar-free cookies, cakes, and syrups. Their CEO, Joseph, has had diabetes since childhood, and is now dedicated to making snacks and other foods that people can enjoy, even if the can't (or simply don't) eat a lot of sugar.

There are several varieties of cookies, some definitely better than others. The Oatmeal Chocolate Chip With Pecans are "pretty good". Crispy and bite-sized, most of these tiny cookies pack a lot of flavor! That's because most of them are chock-full of the good stuff - chocolate chips and pecans. But looking at these cookies it seems they have a problem with the distribution process when it comes to their chips and nuts. Some cookies are loaded with them, in others you'd need a magnifying glass to find the good stuff. The cookie, itself, tastes faintly of oatmeal. The cookies that have loads of chocolate chips and pecans are really good. The chocolate has a nice, sweet flavor. The pecan pieces are small, but they have a nice, nutty flavor. But those cookies that were short-changed on the chips and pecans are just too "plain" for me. Yes, they have a nice, oatmeal flavor, but let's face it... if I wanted an oatmeal cookie, I'd eat one. This cookie is supposed to contain chocolate and pecans!

So what makes them sweet? Maltitol. If you're not used to eating foods sweetened with this ingredient, be sure to start out in low doses, as some people experience cramping or diarrhea from this product. As for me, I can eat four of these cookies with no problems whatsoever, but eating more would be asking for trouble.

Four cookies are a serving, which contains 95 calories, 5g of fat, 40mg of sodium, and 1g of fiber. That's really not too bad, as far as snack foods go. Approximately 11 servings come in the 11 oz. bag. There's no way to re-seal the bags, so I use one of those clips made for potato chip bags, to keep them closed, and keep the cookies fresh.

My local supermarket sells the Joseph's cookies in their own separate section in the cookie aisle. They cost just under $4 a bag, which is a bit more expensive than most of the other brands of sugar-free cookies.
