kitty_bear's Full Review: V. C. Andrews - Runaways
Runaways is the book that brings together Butterfly,Brook,Raven, and Crystal who were all orphans brought together when they are sent to live in the same foster home based in an old hotel.I'm a fan of V.C.Andrews books but this one is my favorite.
The story is actually told by Brooke, who, like the others, had had a horrible life up to this point and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better until she meets three friends she knows will stand by her for life.In Brooke's book, which came before this one, she was adopted by a woman who was only looking for somewhat of a play toy, not a child and Brooke was given back up.She is a very strong girl who is a good leader and at times helps keeps the girls together. Crystal is a genius who is the main planner of the group. Although Brooke is the one who thinks up the plans its Crystal who manages to make them work. Raven is the one in the group who craves attention, from males and anyone else. She is also the one who is most defient at times.Butterfly is the weakest of the girls and needs the most care and looking after. The other girls act not only as her friends but as her family and at times the only thing that keeps them from giving up on finding new lives is the well being of Butterfly.
Throughout the book the four friends try to escape from their foster home in a stolen car. Each girl has a goal or dream she's trying to reach and they all help eachother.Along the way they meet people who help them along or cheat them somehow. They are fugitives on the road trying to escape what's been chasing them, their foster parents and their pasts.
Even though I find Butterfly an annoying character I still really enjoyed this book and have read it more than once.I'm sure anyone who reads this book will relate to one of the characters and definitely have a favorite.I love that all of V.C.Andrews' books are about girls or a girl. V.C.Andrews books always manage to have an interesting story line and she creates extremely interesting characters.Runaways is not the only minseries she has that brings a group of girls together.I recommend Wildflowers if you read and enjoy this book.
