Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie''s plot.
For the classical "movies-for-guys-who-likes-movies" action/adventure, this is the pick! From the director of The Bourne Identity and Mr. And Mrs. Smith, JUMPER brought to the T.V. screen the same formula for action and adventure as the other two films.
David Rice (played by Hayden Christensen), is a somewhat timid highschooler, who at age thirteen, ran across a life and death situation which enables himself to find a supernatural power within, the ability to self-direct telepathic powers to go anywhere in the world Instantly. Whether he wants to go on the other side of a bedroom wall, or Egypt, life became a luxury in a life where his single-parent upbringing was depressing, to say the least. Abusing these powers for years, David soon gets lazy about hiding these skills and gets discovered. His "admirer" comes out of hiding and David soon discovers that there are others with the same powers, and worse yet, there are also those to destroy "Jumpers". These "Hunters of Jumpers" have been eradicating jumpers since medieval times, and David is no exception to the rule. With the help of a long-lost love and the involuntary help of another "jumper", David soon realizes that his easy set lifestyle comes at a price, and a heavier burden to live by. The leader of the "palidans",(played by Samuel Jackson), stops at nothing to kill EVERY Jumper. David has to make life decisions to not only surpass, but to also survive.
PROS
Samuel Jackson did not dissapoint, carrying his acting ability to this movie. (Excluding the dissapointment of Snakes On A Plane, of course). His white haired, cold-hearted, and full of hate for jumpers character kept the motion of the plots going. Playing the bad guy produced a great character for Mr. Jackson, often showing off his responsibility portrayed.
Jamie Bell, (Dave's first girl "friend" in the movie), didn't come out well in this movie. She often tried to portray a confusing and scared woman, yet her acting abilities fell short. You couldn't tell if she was supposed to be scared under scary conditions, or confusing under confusing conditions. Her lines always came around at the wrong time of the plot, making this movie harder to understand and follow. Max Theriot was strong at his character, but due to his accent, was hard to understand, as well as hear. I couldn't tell half the time what he was saying, but his character stood out exceptionally well.
CON
Before I even read the credits on who directed this movie, I saw STRONG hints of The Bourne Identity in this movie, as our main character was constantly on the run, coming up with ideas along the way, making split decisions and staying just one step ahead of his captors. As I kept being reminded how our lead man kept running away from the bad guys, I sensed the same type of action and reaction to scenarios. I was amazed, (and dissapointed), to see that this WAS directed from the same exact director of "Bourne". His "signature" skills in directing were not well hidden and you got the tendicy that you were almost watching the third , (Or fifth)?, Bounre Identity.
OVERALL
Besides the constant hint of "The bourne Identity" hit and run scenes, this movie was not complex, having a single story line with a few plots to make this movie easy to understand. This DVD, (which came out valentine's Day 2008), is a great collection for those high action enthusiasts that are looking for alot of action and a little drama.
