The Super Powers collection from Kenner back in 1984 is still regarded as one of the best comic book toy collections of all time and is still revered by many because of its vast array of characters that were developed for the line. Second and third tier characters such as Green Arrow, Firestorm, Dr. Fate and Red Tornado to name a few saw the light of day. Mattels Justice League Unlimted has become the new Super Powers for the next generation as its lineup as now surpassed that of its predecessor. Im thrilled that no character is getting overlooked and its nice to see Red Tornado, another member of the Satellite Era, take the spotlight.

Red Tornado can boast that he has been a member of both the Justice League and Justice Society of America. Although he is an android, his robotic body merged with two other entitiesUlthoon the Tornado Tyrant of Rann and the Tornado Champion. As a result, he gained cyclone-like abilities to create tornados and move at high velocity.
His costume design on the action figure is close to what is depicted in the comic books, though it is a simplified version of it. For the most part, the colours are correct but not necessarily in the right places. This is minor considering that even I cant remember the small details as it always fluctuates. However, the main components are present: the painted arrow on his forehead, the collar on his cape and his chest insignia.
His chest insignia, in particular, was coloured wrong when first introduced in a three-pack set. It was a solid, yellow oval with an outlined T in red in the middle. This is actually wrong and was corrected in this single-unit release. The oval is outlined in yellow with a solid, yellow T in the middle. It seems like a nitpicky item to fuss over but it does alter the characters costume more drastically than one would expect. That also means the three-pack set is now more of a collectors item because of the slight mistake.
Also, with the single-carded figure, Red Tornado comes equipped with a nice accessorya small mini-tornado. By attaching the smaller part in his hand, it looks like he is creating a wind funnel, which is made out of translucent red plastic. The bonus is having a collectors trading card included.
I also like how his eyes and mouth are coloured yellow to indicate that he really is a robotic life form. Its a small detail but definitely adds to the overall presentation. The downside is his lack of movable joints sticking with the basic 5-point articulation.
The three-pack units were designed for those who want to build up their collections quickly at a bargain price. These single-carded units are definitely geared more towards the collectors and fans of the characters that want that something extra. For me, having Red Tornado is a step closer to completing the Justice League team that I remember fondly in my youth. Heres hoping Firestorm is on that list for new figures as he completes that lineup.
