The Bottom Line: Great mid-priced portable radar detector. I don't need a compass or a strength meter. All I need is something to stop me from getting tickets. And this unit does. Guaranteed.

Like so many others, I am not a speeder.....I sometimes just forget to look at the speedometer and the speed limit signs in proximity of each other.
I purchased my first K40 RD650VG-2 approximately 7 years ago after my last ticket. I chose this particular model because it was mid-priced at $249.00 and for the speeding ticket guarantee which I am happy to say I have never had to use.
My first commendation for this product is its durability! Many hot summers and really cold winters stuck low on my windshield with an occasion switch to another vehicle or a short time sabbatical in the glove box. NEVER A MALFUNCTION OR BREAKAGE! QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY!!
Within 3 months after my purchase I was able to distinguish the different tones by ear, which indicate which type of radar gun I was being hit with and have found it to be dead-on accurate. In the 7 years I have been using this radar detector I have always received more than enough warning to check my speed and adjust it whenever necessary. I have found it especially helpful with the instant on radar gun used as a sniper device by revenue hungry officers. I always follow the rule of never leading the pack so I get notification of another vehicle up to 2 miles ahead of me getting hit very quickly.
2-1/2 yrs ago I purchased another RD650VG-2 for my son as he began paying his own insurance premiums...It has saved him hundreds of dollars in fines and probably thousands of dollars in increased insurance premiums.
I have so much confidence in the K40 line of radar detectors that I recently purchased a K40-2000P Remote Radar System that comes with the one year speeding ticket guarantee and a lifetime theft guarantee! This undetectable system is guaranteed that if any component is ever stolen the company will replace it for free! I look forward to the installation and the convenience of having a permanent system that I don't have to unplug and hide whenever I park in a danger area. I'll be sure and come back here and review that in a couple of months.
The only advice I would give to K40 Electronics is to give the purchaser the option to extend the speeding ticket guarantee Even though I have never used it I would certainly like the option to extend it for a fee.
I also strive as much as possible to purchase American made products, and this company fits the bill.
