  • Ease of Use:
Pros:Sharp imagery, Good customer support. Very good price/value.
Cons:Driver not included with monitor. Must download, or use Windows generic.
The Bottom Line: For the current street price (as low as $295 on Ebay) you cannot do better than the KDS RAD-5.

While I think most flat panel monitors are still somewhat overpriced, I checked around and believe the KDS RAD-5 represents the best value for around $300 now. I ordered my new RAD-5 from an EBAY merchant with the "Buy It Now" option at $295 plus $20 shipping. The monitor arrived in 48 hours, but I found it to be "defective" upon plugging it in. The monitor worked, however the power switch didn't turn it off, and the adjustment switches were inoperative.

I contacted KDS on their web site and requested an RMA authorization. They sent me a new monitor from their California facility within 4 days, and included instructions to return the defective one at their expense. Good service! The new one works flawlessly!

The clarity is outstanding, especially for word-processing. The adjustments are clearly functional, and all aspects of the monitor seem to be beyond any criticism. I am currently using it as part of a dual monitor setup with a laptop, and find it extremely handy to have two screens for a desktop.

I looked at a number of flat-panel monitors in the $320-$450 range, and frankly other than some which boast a slightly higher contrast ratio (the RAD-5 has a good 300:1 ratio) or those with integral speakers and power supplies...I see little reason to spend more for one of the competitors.

This monitor comes with a 3 year warranty (some have only a 90 day warranty) and obviously, they honor their warranty with prompt, fair service.
