Whether you choose to imbibe or not, Kahlua is a tasty alcoholic drink, no argument there. I don't often drink alcoholic beverages, but when I do, I enjoy something fairly decadent and sweet....probably more like a dessert than a straight alcohol tasting drink.

Back when I was in college, some of my roommates introduced me to Kahlua. I immediately enjoyed the sweet coffee flavor and found that when combined with ice and milk (or cream) it was a really yummy drink, bordering on a dessert, it was so rich. I couldn't get enough of it and kept a bottle on hand as often as possible, well I did like it....a lot. I even got a hold of a recipe to make my own and tried several times to recreate the unique and distinctive flavors of this drink from south of the border. I was pretty unsuccessful though. Although I tried following the recipe I had very closely, it is difficult to try to copy something as unique and delicious as the real Kahlua Mexican Coffee Liqueur. What I ended up with was a poor substitute with a not-too-good flavor. I don't know what their secret is for making this adult beverage, Kahlua, so delicious, but it is something you should try when you're in the mood for a spiked coffee drink that is deliciously rich and different.
Some years ago, I wrote another review on a favorite adult beverage called Bailey's Irish Cream. I would have to say that Kahlua rivals Bailey's in terms of being my favorite. Both are very distinct. Both are sweet, but I would have to say that Kahlua is a bit sweeter. Kahlua Mexican Coffee Liqueur is made with rum, coffee and cream, while Bailey's Irish Cream is made with Irish Whiskey and cream.
I occasionally allow myself to indulge in Kahlua when we're out somewhere, before dinner in a restaurant, for example. I still buy it once in awhile also and have found it in Costco for sale for about $15.00 for a large bottle. I also found it in our local grocery store, on sale, for a smaller bottle (750 mL) for about $14.00. I made a Kahlua and Milk drink tonight for my "dessert" and also because I wanted to make sure I wrote an accurate review describing the distinct aroma of coffee and rum, which go so well together. Since it is a liqueur, it's perfect for an after dinner treat.
There are several tempting recipes you can try with Kahlua. I tend to stick with my tried and true, Kahlua and Cream (or milk) on the rocks. A few others are:
Kahlua Straight Up - tastes rich and the flavor of the strong coffee and the rum come through loud and clear.
Kahlua White Russian - with vodka and milk.
Pour a little Kahlua in your cup of coffee.
Kahlua is also versatile and useful in making unusual cheesecake recipes and other fancy dessert recipes.

The alcohol content stated on the bottle is 20%. The coffee beans used in this recipe for making Kahlua are the finest Arabica beans. Vanilla is also part of the ingredients in the Kahlua recipe. Of course, this alcoholic beverage is pretty high in calories and sweet, so if you are diabetic or watching your weight, it might be wise not to indulge -- at least not very often.
The tall, slender brown glass bottle is distinctive with a gold, yellow and red label of an artist's rendition of an old Mexican street with villas and palm trees. It also has a red ribbon and 'wax' seal imprinted with a "K".
