ladyconsumer's Full Review: Kalkan whiskas Whiskas Temptations Hairball Contro...
Music is a very funny cat, when it comes to eating. He almost never asks for food. He doesn't "attack" us the minute we walk in the door at night. He doesn't come running to the sound of the can opener, and he's not really interested in table scraps. Furthermore, most "snack" foods don't interest him in the least. Except for Whiskas Temptations brand. We were thrilled to finally find a brand of snack foods that Music will eat.
Then when we discovered that they have a snack that also helps control hairballs, we were doubly thrilled! Temptations Chicken-Flavor Hairball Control Treat. Music loves them, and we like knowing we're helping to control those icky hairballs.
2.1 oz. of these treats come in a resealable foil bag. Their other treats - the ones not designed for hairball control - cost the same amount, but come in a 3 oz. bag. In other words, they're charging extra for the hairball control variety.
These treats are a little bigger size than their other varieties. These are rectangles, 1/2" long, 3/8" wide. Note that these treats are not designed for kitties. In fact, the directions specify that they should not be given to cats less than six months old. But for grown ups, like Music, 10 per day should be given to help eliminate hairballs. Then switch to every other day, to help prevent new hairballs from developing.
These treats contain petrolatum, the same ingredient found in the liquid hairball remedies. Basically, it acts as a lubricant, coating the hairballs, and allowing them to pass more easily through the digestive tract.
We had been giving Music the liquid remedy for hairballs - but only after he had a problem. He hates that stuff, so we don't use it too frequently. Now we also give him these treats occasionally, and the hairball problem has been minimal. I wouldn't say it's been eliminated completely as we still occasionally find "messes". But it's a rare occurrence now. We're satisfied that these treats have, indeed, helped the hairball situation.
Most importantly, Music loves these chicken-flavored treats. He will eagerly eat every single one we give him, without fail. They are crunchy on the outside, with a soft inside. Their first few ingredients are chicken by-product meal, ground corn, rice, dried meat by-products, animal fat, wheat flour, and natural poultry flavor. They must taste good to Music, which makes him happy. They don't smell too bad, either, which makes me happy.
Obviously, this is a treat, not a meal replacement. Furthermore, it contains petroleum, which should only be given in recommended dosages, as too much can aggravate Kitty's system. So make sure you dole these out according to the directions.
I'm just happy that there's a treat Music will eat, that will also help keep his hairballs under control. At less than $2 per bag, you can bet I'll keep purchasing these!
