| flash-hammer's Full Review: Kappa Italy Official Home Replica Soccer Jersey 30... |
When I first saw the Lycra Italian shirts, I wasn't a fan. I felt they were too plain and, well they were a bit tight, somewhere along the line my view changed, and I purchased the 01/02 Roma 3rd shirt. Before long, these shirts became a little sub-collection within my football shirts, and I was actually quite dissapointed when both Italy and Roma, Kappa's two main teams, changed kit supplier.
Italy wore this shirt from the beggining of their runners up run in the 2000 European Championships in the Netherlands/Belgium right through to their controversial exit(if you dont know, they were robbed) from the Japan/South Korea 2002 World Cup.
The shirt is plain, apart from the Italia badge on the left chest area and the two white Kappa logos on the sleeves. The right sleeve also sports three gold stars to signify the three World Cups Italy has won over the years.
The shirt is well stitched, and very durable. Like all of the latest Kappa shirts, it is designed to stretch quite a bit.
The only parts of the shirt not made of the lycra material are the under arms and sides. these are made of a slightly harder material(possibly polyester, although it is as stretchy as the lycra so it may be some variety of that material)these parts of the shirt have small holes to provide ventilation and reduce the amount of sweat a player produces while playing. While this is a feature that rarely works, it seems to absorb sweat better than any other football shirt I own.
There are two versions of the shirt available, with minor differences. The more expensive, player jersey has slightly smaller Kappa logos and the Italia badge is closer to the shoulder.
One thing you should be aware of when thinking about buying this, or any Kappa jersey made in recent years, is that they are extremely small made. My shirt is an XXL, and it is much tighter than some shirts I have sized at L.
Keep in mind the shirt were made with the Italy team in mind, so they all have the build to get away with wearing a skin-tight shirt.
One thing I really like about the shirt is that it does not scream football shirt. The fact that all it has on the front is the badge gives the impression of a retro shirt or T-shirt. I have got away with wearing it in several 'No Football Colours' bars, this, coupled with the fact that it is one of the most practical football shirts available, makes it an essential purchase for a football fan.
The only major downside is the fact that the team don't wear it any more. However, it is actually much nicer both stylistically and practically than the new Puma shirt(which I also own)
