| flash-hammer's Full Review: Kappa Roma Euro Kombat Jersey ROMA-EUROKOMBAT #986... |
Throughout my years as a fan of the old sport of football, I have garnered what is now a legendary collection of replica shirts.
From a variety of countries, spanning most of Europe, dipping into South America and Asia and even featuring an Egyptian shirt, my collection could actually be described as being a bit too large, as at its current state, the tally is well over 100.
This Roma shirt was a bit of a turning point, as it was the first shirt from Kappa's range of stretchy,Lycra football shirts.
This was AS Roma's 3rd shirt in the 2001/02 season, and was worn in the UEFA Champions League, most notably in the games against Arsenal.
The AS Roma badge, which sports the founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus with their mothering wolf, is stitched onto the left-hand side of the jersey's chest area, with the right hand side featuring a stitched on Italian flag, there to signify that Roma were last season's Italian Serie A champions and the Kappa logo appearing on both sleeves. Accross the front of the jersey is the team's sponsor. 'INA Assitalia', this is not stitched on, but is actually just written in dark blue text as part of the shirt.
The shirt is well stitched for the most part, although the stitching underneath one of the elbows on my shirt is starting to come out, although I have been pretty rough with the jersey, so a little wear and tear would be expected.
The selling point of Kappa's lycra shirts was that it allowed players who's shirts were being tugged a bit of freedom so they could still move, and highlight the problem to the referee.
The collar is made of navy blue polyester, this along with the Roma,Serie A and Kappa badges are the only parts of the shirt which are not made of Lycra.
One complaint is the navy blue panels down the underside of the arms and the sides of the body. Most jerseys, including all the other Kappa Lycra shirts I own, use this space to put in ventilated fabric to stop sweating, this shirt just has a solid lycra panel, which doesn't work quite as well.
With that said, the top is better than most at absorbing sweat from your body. This is a complaint often thrown at replica shirts, because they are made different to the ones the actual players wear. But with these Lycra efforts, this is not the case. What Francesco Totti wears, I wear.
One thing you should be aware of when thinking about buying this, or any Kappa jersey made in recent years, is that they are extremely small made. My shirt is an XXL, and it is much tighter than some shirts I have sized at L.
On the whole, I feel this shirt would be a highly worthy purchase to any football/soccer fan. The only real fault I can label at it is that it is a few seasons old, and the 02/03 Roma jerseys, which featured a team sponsor of Mazda, were a bit cooler.
