Pros: uber-healthy; seven whole grains, sesame seeds; low fat, no sugar, no sodium, no cholesterol
Cons: no flavour--cannot double as dry snack; funny texture--must be mixed with other cereal(s)
The Bottom Line: Possibly the healthiest cereal available. Low on taste, dodgy on texture, but will act as a cereal base to make sure you start your day on the healthiest footing.

We do lots of things we shouldn't even though we know it's bad for us. We scoff junk food; we vegetate in front of the TV; we stand like a statue on the escalator cogitating when we should be striding up those stairs. Then again, we sometimes do things that are good for us, even though they're not so pleasant: we go the gym; we forgo that extra slice of cake; we even, on occasion, eat something not that appealing if we know it's uber-healthy.
In the world of breakfast cereals (and you have to trust me here, for I have been a breakfast cereal eater for nigh on three decades, making a name for myself among my peers as a breakfast cereal connoisseur of some repute), there is no cereal more health-giving and wholesome as Kashi's 7 Whole Grain Puffs.
A pure blend of 7 whole grains and sesame seeds (both grains and seeds steamed at 1000 degrees F for only 15 seconds so they retain most of their nutrients, fibre and shape), Kashi's 7 Whole Grain Puffs provides about 16g of whole grain per serving. Nutritionists recommend at least 3 servings of whole grain products a day (48g/day), so one serving of Kashi's 7 Whole Grain Puffs gives us about a third of the daily recommendation.
The 7 whole grains are whole hard red winter wheat, whole long grain grown rice, whole oats, whole barley, whole triticale, whole rye, and whole buckwheat. Together with the sesame seeds, they provide an unbeatable power punch of health-giving and wholesome goodness.
Kashi's 7 Whole Grain Puffs is said to have a unique flavour derived from the sesame seeds bursting at high temperature and imparting their unique flavour to the cereal. Unfortunately, my taste buds are not evolved enough to perceive this flavour, and I am not that thrilled either by the puffs heartier texture. If anything, I find the texture somewhat dodgy, a little on the soft side, but then I prefer a much more crunchy texture to my breakfast cereal. As a result, I have to use it as my cereal base, a very healthy base, granted, but essentially flavourless and crunch-missing, therefore necessitating addition of other cereals with more flavour (e.g. Alpen Swiss-style muesli) and more crunchiness (e.g. Quaker's Oatmeal Squares).
Incidentally, of the three, only Quaker's Oatmeal Squares can double as a tasty and crunchy dry snack. Alpen would be too messy to eat dry and Kashi's 7 Whole Grain Puffs, while the healthiest of the lot, would be unpalatable dry and on its own.
Kashi's Honey Puffs is essentially Kashi's Whole Grain Puffs sweetened with golden honey and is a more tasty while still healthy version of the original 7 Whole Grain Puffs.
For the fanatically health-conscious, Kashi has its own website where you can find all their products which include both hot and cold cereals, snacks like cookies, shakes, bars and crackers, even frozen meals and waffles. On the site you can find recipes for shakes, muffins and other healthy foods using Kashi products. Passionate about all-natural foods, Kashi does not use artificial flavourings or preservatives. The sweetness of their snacks is derived from honey or dried fruits.
