I have a love hate relationship with cereal, actually with all breakfast foods in general. I really have to be in the mood for it if I'm going to want it. And finally today I had a craving for cereal, so I excitedly tore into the box of this new cereal I had gotten on a whim at the store. Sadly, after this cereal experience, I don't think I'm going to be in the mood for breakfast foods for a good long while again.

Honey Sunshine looked good on the package. Like sweet little morsels just waiting to be scooped up with a spoonful of milk. So that's what I did. And then I got the blandness that is this cereal. I couldn't taste the honey. At all. Not even a little sweetness. To be honest I didn't taste much of any kind of flavor, which is strange since they supposedly use a seven grain blend. It was just the crunch and the taste of milk with maybe a little rice flavored after-taste. I guess the crunch of the texture was nice, but that was the only happy experience I had with this cereal.
I will say this, Kashi usually has a decent line-up of ingredients. Their seven grain blend seems healthy and the sweetener is evaporated cane juice. But I did notice the main ingredient in this cereal was yellow corn meal. Always with the corn it would seem. And there is some honey in this mixture, but it was near the bottom of the list along with some other obscure ingredients I had never heard of before. Health wise this cereal seems ok too. There is quite a bit of sodium somehow, 6% of the daily value. And the sugars are 6 grams even if it didn't taste like there was any in there. Finally, 2 grams of protein seems to round it out.
So a decent listing of ingredients but it really isn't worth it if you're not going to enjoy the flavor. I won't be buying this cereal again. And unfortunately I still have most of the box left that I'll have to convince myself to eat so I don't waste it.
