Im always looking for fun snacks while working in the mall. Always have to have something in my locker for break time. I dont have time to run to the grocery store while Im at work, so Im restricted to whatever happens to be in the Food Court. There are a few stores that have snacks from time to time. I stopped by F.Y.E. the other day for something, and decided to hit the snack wall.
Since Sam Goody was bought out by F.Y.E. a few years ago, they have included in some stores a snack wall featuring candy and treats from Japan (of course located by the Anime section) Ive always loved gummy candies, so I could not resist picking up a bag of Kasugai Strawberry Gummy Candy. Ive always loved these candies.
The bag contains approximately 27 individually wrapped gummy candies, between the size of a nickel and quarter. I remember when the gummies were not individually wrapped and they used to stick together. Its nice Kasugai thought about that.
The gummy candy comes in a variety of flavors, but most recently I chose the Strawberry flavor. As soon as you open up the package, you are hit with a tidal wave of aroma. The smell is intense, and gets the mouth watering. I can only tolerate a small amount of strawberry flavoring though. A little bit goes a long way. It still tastes great, and is fairly close to the taste of an actual strawberry (maybe sweeter) its just pretty rich. Strawberry puree is used as the main source of flavoring. The candy almost melts in your mouth. After eating a few there is a slight aftertaste. But it isnt too bad. There is a greasy feel to the candy, and Im not sure if its that way so it doesnt stick to the package or not. But it really doesnt affect the flavor, so its not a big deal.
The candy is a fat free snack, as well as cholesterol free. Sodium level is very low in a single serving, approximately 1+ mg per piece. A serving consists of 9 pieces which seems like a lot because of how rich the flavoring is. There is only 32g of Sugar in a serving, so it makes for a nice snack between breakfast and lunch for my Dad who is a diabetic. The sugar metabolizes in a way that wont spike his blood sugar, but still sustain him until lunch time. Except the serving size is cut in half (and a quarter at times).
I eat these candies sparingly, and a whole bag lasts about a week or so in my locker at work
not so long when at home
The gummy candy is addicting, even though Strawberry isnt my favorite flavor.
Kasugai Strawberry Gummy Candy is reasonably priced at $4.99 for a 4.76oz (135g) bag. So indulging once in a while wont break your budget. The Gummy Candy comes in a variety of flavors. Grape, Apple, Orange, Pineapple, Orange, and the interesting flavor of Muscat.
