Cons:a total waste of money; track moves if you breathe

The Bottom Line: I wasted my $10 so you don't have to. Do not buy this. It's not cool. It's not fun.

It’s only been in the last couple of months that the kid has gotten into the Mighty Beanz. If you’re unfamiliar with these little toys – they are a bit larger than a multivitamin and kind of move on their own. They are very weird, but cute (and gross depending) on which of the various designs and themes you own/are looking at. Each Bean has a name and that name will make you laugh more often than not. My husband and I find them hilarious and I’m just thankful they are small. Death to big honkin' toys!

It was because of the kid’s recent Beanz craze I picked up the Mighty Beanz Racetrack: Collision Course for him for Christmas. He had already spent many hours playing with his 20+ and ever growing collection of Mighty Beanz. I figured this little race track set would just add to the fun. I'm sure it would have, too, if it didn't make everyone who comes into contact with it so mad.

About this set

Mighty Beanz Race Track: Collision Course is one of three Mighty Beanz racetracks on the market. A neat thing about them is, if you own more than one you can hook them together to make a bigger, cooler track. I haven’t yet made up my mind if that’s a nifty idea or if it’s just a sick and twisted ploy to make the kid feel he needs all three racetracks; perhaps it’s both.

Besides the track Mighty Beanz Race Track: Collision Course included two (of 6) exclusive Beanz that are only available with a Beanz Racetrack. The two that came with our set were Rev Head Bean and Burnout Bean.

I paid $9.99 for this set at Target. It’s recommended for ages 5 and up and is not something you want to have around if there are younger children in the home. Mighty Beanz are even more of a chocking hazard than Lego’s in my opinion because of their size, shape and appeal.

Set up and play value

This was the one gift the kid opened up Christmas Eve. As I attempted to set up the racetrack he happily checked out his 2 new Mighty Beanz and watched as I quickly got mad at the Mighty Beanz Race Track: Collision Course.

There were detailed instructions so it was easy to see exactly where the yellow supports needed to be positioned on the blue poles. That part was done in no time flat and the blue poles hooked into each other and they are there but good! It was the next step – getting the racetrack hooked onto the yellow supports - that ticked me off to the point that I told my husband it was his turn to mess with this thing.

It was painfully obvious that while the structure for the racetrack was very sturdy and easy to set up - the racetrack as a whole was not well thought out. The red track just kind of sets onto the yellow supports; there is really nothing that it snaps into to keep it from moving around. That means, if you bump it – you have to fix it. It means it can and most likely will move if you sneeze in the near vicinity and that in turn means the Beanz will not be able to race in any sense of the word. And need I even go onto to say that basically makes this set a worthless waste of plastic?

The set also comes with some cute little Beanz signs (start, finish, etc.) which add the finishing touch to the Mighty Beanz Race Track: Collision Course. Like the track the signs just sort of set into place and are easily bumped out of position, not to mention they will disintegrate quickly due to the cheap paper they are made from.

The kid did play with his Mighty Beanz Race Track: Collision Course for 2 days but hasn’t touched it since he had to move it to his room. Why? Because it came apart and it’s not easy to get the track set exactly how it must be in order to race the Beanz. He becomes frustrated with it continually becoming unhinged (not the right word since it was never hinged to begin with, which is the problem) and so no longer bothers with it. It's only a matter of time before we toss it in the trash.

Basically

Mighty Beanz Race Track: Collision Course is a real dud. The only good thing about the kid getting this for Christmas was the 2 limited edition, exclusive Racing Beanz that came with this set. I wasted my $10 and won’t bother wasting any more cash on any other Beanz racetrack sets. The kid can race his Beanz on homemade racetracks or Hot Wheels tracks. At least those won’t fall apart every other second.
