Balsamic and Basil. Ken's Steak House might not plan alliteration like that, but it works. And, it's good.
Balsamic and Basil -- You Can't Miss
Don't miss it. The flavor of balsamic vinegar is here to stay, and I make every effort to bring it into dishes, sauces and dressings whenever possible. If I lived alone, I'd probably cook with it daily, but I have a family who likes variety and they want to experience other flavors.
However, in salad dressing choices, I can do my own thing because we dress our salads separately. If someone wants Creamy Italian, he can have it. Vidalia Onion? Go for it. As for me, I often take the Balsamic Basil Vinaigrette from Ken's Steak House.
What's in it for Me?
There's really no mystery to this dressing. The name of it covers almost everything in the bottle, but for soybean oil (in a vinegar dressing there must be oil), water, balsamic vinegar (a give, right?), distilled vinegar (probably for preserving reasons), garlic, salt, sugar, sweet basil (yep), spice (those mysterious kinds -- they don't have names for some reason), xanthan gum (thickener), and calcium disodium (preservative).
Nothing alarming, though I'm not a huge soybean oil fan, and would prefer canola or olive oil. Cheaper is as cheaper does, in my opinion. But, the dressing still delights my taste buds, but that's all in the balsamic end of things.
As for calories and other deciding factors for some folks, you'll get 12 grams of fat (one and a half of which are saturated), no cholesterol, 290 mg. of sodium (a little large there), 1 carbohydrate and 110 calories. I'm thrilled with the carb count on this dressing, as a moderate low-carber it helps me a great deal. Who needs the added sugar when there's balsamic vinegar there to give some sweetness and the added flavor?
If You're on the Prowl
If a new salad dressing is on your agenda, this one is a great choice. When I see "balsamic" it has "delicious" written all over it.
Let's put it this way ... if there's a puddle of Balsamic Basil Vinaigrette dressing left in my salad bowl, I'm not wasting it.
