ejtastad's Full Review: Kenmore HE2 Plus Front Load Washer
This washer works better than many make out, but 2 or 3 times I did have scares. I have had the washer for 2 or 3 years now, and haven't had to call service, BUT:
What you need to know, is wash all your small items in laundry bags. These are about $0.99 to $2.99 at any large retail store. These prevent small items from getting sucked past the seal and into the drive motor or intake or drain tubes for the washer.
Every wash, wipe the seal dry by pulling it back. Do a good job. Run the recommended bleach cycle on the machine at the recommended interval (once a month or something).
Use small amounts of HE soap, but not so small your clothes don't get clean. How much to use depends on your water hardness. For soft water use less detergent.
By following these procedures you should get a reasonable results. I am not saying I love the machine, but these problems are not unique to this Kenmoore (happens to be by Whirlpool). Other frontload washers have a variety of issues too, often similar to the ones with this unit. I don't specifically recommend this unit though, as it is an older model and there are better units out there, but when it was new, for the price, it wasn't bad.
