| alicorc's Full Review: Kenmore 42800 Stainless Steel Electric Cooktop |
We enjoy cooking out here in the sticks, unfortunatly natural gas is not available. After our old electric cooktop bit the big one, we looked into several options. Propane was a possibility, but expensive to install, and cook with. We looked at several electric cooktops and then stumbled upon the new kenmore induction.
It's cooking abilities are far beyond a regular electric cooktop. It will boil water faster than a gas stove, really fast, no more waiting around for the pasta water to boil and obviously blows away electric. Super for searing meats.
It's incredibly adjustable at lower temps, no more double boilers for delicate sauces or melting chocolate, you can even use it as a warmer instead of the oven.
It is very easy to clean, since it never really gets hot things don't cook on it's surface, just in the pan and there are no knobs or buttons to catch stuff.
Since the technology only works with the pan on it, it's very safe too won't even turn on, immediatly stops heating and turns itself off if you remove the pan, so there's no danger of leaving the stove on.
The cooktop is a standard 30" cooktop size, we just slid out our old electric one, and slid this one in. Took about 5 minutes to install.
The only complaints I have are that the touch buttons can be a bit tricky, if you spill something on them they go into error mode and you have to stop, dry them off and reset them.
Also, the burners only work with certain metals like stainless steel and cast iron, so if you have invested a lot in aluminum or copper pans, you'll have to purchase some new cookware.
