| llazy1's Full Review: Kenmore 42800 Stainless Steel Electric Cooktop |
We were going to put in new counter tops, and one thing leads to another.. why put that 20 year old electric coil unit back in? Time to upgrade! We reaally wanted a gas range.. until I started researching them. Burner$ needing to be replaced on a regular basis, the expense of installing (I'm in the boonies and there are no gas lines.. would need a propane tank..). I read lousy reviews regarding breakdowns of high cost restaurant style ranges. Then I found inductionsite.com and learned about induction cooktops. Cooks faster, cleaner, and cheaper than any other type. There just weren't any cons. We bought the Sears Kenmore Elite Induction Cooktop last spring. It's so cool! It's easy to clean- no buttons or knobs to gunk up. People talk about the touchpad being difficult but it just takes a little getting used to. It only takes a light touch to activate or change settings.
The response is instantaneous. It's a great excuse to go get nice new pans since you can only use stainless steel.
My unit came with 1 farberware millenium soft touch stainless steel skillet with non-stick coating. I finally bought the rest of the set (non-coated).
I read about all the other higher priced foreign made induction units.. but why pay more? My only hesitations were that it would have been nice to get one with a "bridge" between burners (mine doesnt), and whether to try and make room for a larger unit, but in the end, I went with a 30" drop in. I haven't regretted one moment since. It still looks like brand new. I rarely use the special cleaner.. normally just a scrubby sponge and soap and water. Got kids? There's all kinds of safety features built in (some are programable). So don't sit there and agonize over the btu's and the bla-bla-bla's. You'll drive yourself crazy. You don't need an excuse to buy this.. it's perfect. The sleek black expanse looks cool with our new counters (Corian "Aruba"). But that's another review!
