| gabaroo84's Full Review: Kenmore 42800 Stainless Steel Electric Cooktop |
We put this Kenmore cooktop in our new kitchen last year. It worked as expected until one year later. When I was in the middle of cooking using only three of the five burners the entire unit went dead. No problem, we took out the extended warranty the week before. How wrong I was.
After calling the in home service number I spoke to a woman in the Philippines who scheduled a repairman for a week later. The repairman quickly informed us he doesn't know how to fix this appliance and nobody at Sears does! He says he'll recommend Sears replace it. A week later a wire in an envelope is delivered to our house. We call the local parts department and they confirm that the part was ordered by the repair dept and sent to us. Confused at this method we scheduled another visit for the repairman. Angry Repairman shows up a week and a half later and informs me he has never even seen one of these units before. He asked me why the other guy wasn't sent back. I don't know! He took the unit apart, looked inside, closed it up leaving half of the screws on the counter and says, "Induction was a bad idea in the 70's and it still is. The bad news is the wire that was sent to us is too short. I'll call my supervisor and get back to you". Angry Repairman leaves speeding out of our driveway.
I call the in home service department and they say there is nothing they can do because they have to go by the techs emailed notes which they won't have for 24 hours. I asked to speak to a supervisor and got an attitude from Angry Customer Service Rep stating that she knows what she's doing and I don't need a supervisor. I get off this call with no success and drive to Sears to talk to the salesman, he quit, however, another salesman agreed to help. He called Angry Customer Service Rep at the in home services dept. She gave the salesman the same runaround. When I got home there was a message from Angry Repairman saying they are going to try to schedule the "TV repair guy" to come to fix the cooktop. HUH?!!! (You can't make this up!)
I made my first call to Sears on March 1st it's now March 22nd and the cooktop it still broken. I'll update this review when the "TV guy" comes to fix the cooktop. LOL!
*UPDATE: I called the local home service department on Monday to see how they are going to resolve this problem. I was told I was scheduled for service on Friday (that would have been nice to know) between 8 a.m. and 12p.m. At 3:30 on Friday I called them again to see if they were going to come.I was told he had two more stops and then he'd be here. Needless to say he never showed and never called!
We found an email address on Saturday for Customer Relations in Chicago. We sent them a detailed explanation of our problem and they responded by saying we will have service on Monday and the cooktop will be fixed. I will update after that.
