Will money saved on efficiency go towards repairs?

Cons: Expensive and questionable realiability.
The Bottom Line: Based on the fact that it cost so much and broke after only one year, I have to rate it as below average.

I bought the Kenmore HE3 dryer about a year ago. It was performing fine until it stopped working all together. None of the buttons responded and the display was black. But I knew that it was getting power because the light inside the drum came on when I opened the door.
So I called Sears and scheduled maintenance, which is a whole other saga that I won’t get into here. When the repairperson came, he confirmed what I had already suspected, namely that the main circuit board had “gone bad”. Luckily, the dryer was within days of running out of the warranty period because the board would have cost me $350 and the labor about $100.
I asked the repairman if this was a common problem for this model. He was diplomatically vague and only said, “these dryers work good until they stop working”. He warned me not to plug other appliances into the same socket that the dryer is plugged into because when they come on, they could cause the dryer to malfunction.
I now run my dryer on a surge protector like the one used with computers. I don’t think that would work with an electric dryer because they draw too much current. I have been looking for information on a recall on people having other problems but have not found anything. Maybe it was just a fluke or maybe there's a production flaw. Research its repair history before you buy one. At the time of this writing, I could not find a repair history. But if this is a common problem, something should show up somewhere eventually.
