| rhatt_dt3000's Full Review: Kenwood VR-6070 6.1 Channels Receiver |
Like the other reviewers here I was looking for a multi-function receiver for music and movies. And I didn't want to spend a fortune. After doing some research I purchased a new VR-6070. Besides having good power and a full menu of surround functions the 6070 also has preamp outputs for all channels. This was important to me as I wanted to power some channels with out-board amps.
Using an NAD 2200 power amp for the front channel and an NAD 2155 for the rear channels the Kenwood only needed to power the side surrounds and the center. I can't say I've noticed any over heating problems with this set-up at all.
Add to this a full compliment of Polk speakers, including a powered sub, the 6070 gives me a fantastic music sound stage that is clear and powerful. The fiber optic inputs for both CD and DVD make for very easy hook-ups and signal transfers that are without any source bleed over or colorations.
In short the Kenwood 6070 does exactly what I wanted it to do, give me theater quality sound for DVD movies and music playback any way I want it. The multiple surround functions (Neo6, PL2, CS2, DTS, DTS-EX) and THX rating make this a great center piece for any home theater.
The only reason I could see not to buy a VR-6070 is if you wanted to do 7.1 playback. But there really isn't much 7.1 source material out there anyway.
I bought my unit new for $350.00 from an on-line store when local dealers were selling it for $599.00 off the shelf.
